About The Role We are looking for a Software Development Manager to provide direct leadership and management for one or two engineering teams. This role is ideal for a former technical individual contributor who now leads through people management, delivery execution, and strong team culture. You will be responsible for supporting team performance, improving delivery practices, maintaining team morale, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality outcomes aligned with product and business priorities. What You’ll Do Lead one or two engineering teams made up of individual contributors (e.g., software developers, QA specialists, and other technical roles)Monitor and optimize team productivity and code quality in an AI-augmented development environmentOwn team delivery outcomes, including processes, communication, and continuous improvementPlan and execute objectives aligned to product line goals and broader organizational prioritiesDevelop and track projects and initiatives that contribute to product, technology, and departmental outcomesCoordinate team execution with minimal supervision, ensuring accountability and progress toward commitmentsIdentify and implement improvements to workflows and processes, including recommending improvements outside the team when neededTrack team capacity, workload, and planning to ensure sustainable delivery and clear prioritizationConduct regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports and collaborate with relevant peersDrive recruiting efforts to ensure the team is staffed with the skills and talent needed for successEvaluate and communicate team member performance, providing coaching and development supportDefine and maintain career paths for engineers, supporting individual growth and long-term professional developmentProvide recommendations on impact and performance to support compensation and talent decisionsBuild an environment that supports morale, retention, and team engagementMentor individual contributors who show potential and interest in developing leadership and management skillsIdentify, manage, and help resolve conflicts within and outside the team while maintaining a neutral and constructive approachProvide candid, respectful feedback to team members and cross-functional peersProactively engage with stakeholders outside of the team or department to build relationships, lend support, and ensure alignmentEnsure visibility of the team’s progress and deliveries to stakeholders outside the team. Who You Are Experience managing software development teams that actively use AI coding agents and AI-assisted development tools in daily workflowsStrong people leadership skills, including coaching, performance support, and team developmentAbility to coordinate and execute projects and initiatives with minimal oversightStrong organizational and communication skills, including cross-team collaborationExperience managing a team delivering continuously and incrementallyExperience with Agile methodologiesExperience in improving delivery processes and establishing effective team operating rhythmsAbility to manage team capacity, planning, and prioritization effectivelyStrong conflict management and relationship-building skillsComfort partnering with customer-facing teams to support customer issue resolution and outcomes Required Experience & Qualifications Typically 8+ years of overall experience in software development or related technical roles (or equivalent)Typically 2+ years of people management experience (or equivalent leadership experience)Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (preferred)Equivalent practical experience may be considered in place of a formal degree Why Join Tempo?
