About The Role We are seeking a highly experienced Principal AI Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in realizing Matrix42's vision of integrating AI "Your Way" into our enterprise platform. This is a hands-on, technical leadership position where you will design, develop, and operate scalable AI solutions that directly impact our product offerings. Your expertise will help connect real customer and product needs with innovative software, data, and AI capabilities, ranging from deterministic workflows to advanced agentic systems. You will act as a technical multiplier, collaborating across teams to turn prototypes into robust, secure, and scalable product features. Your work will influence the engineering standards and best practices for AI integration within our enterprise SaaS environment, ensuring high trust, reliability, and performance. Qualifications 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of delivering customer-facing software in production environments.Proficiency in Python and strong skills in at least one product engineering language such as C#, TypeScript, or Java.Hands-on experience building and deploying production large language models (LLMs) or agentic AI applications, including retrieval, grounding, embeddings, structured outputs, tool calling, and context management.Experience working with data-intensive systems, including APIs, event streaming, data ingestion, transformation, and operational observability.Strong understanding of system design principles for distributed, cloud-native, multi-tenant SaaS products, emphasizing security, identity management, and reliable integrations.Practical experience in evaluating AI systems through datasets, telemetry, automated testing, and production monitoring.Ability to translate complex use cases into technical requirements, balancing rapid validation with scalable architecture.Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with stakeholders.Degree in computer science, software engineering, AI/ML, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Responsibilities Own end-to-end development of selected AI capabilities, from problem discovery and design to implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement.Develop, review, and maintain production-quality code for AI services, APIs, data pipelines, and product interfaces.Design and implement agentic systems utilizing retrieval, grounding, structured outputs, tool execution, and context management to deliver reliable AI workflows.Translate customer and product needs into concrete technical and platform requirements, ensuring data quality, governance, and trustworthiness of AI results.Create early prototypes and validate them against real workflows, iterating to evolve secure and maintainable multi-tenant solutions.Integrate evaluation metrics, telemetry, and automated testing into the development process to monitor AI performance, safety, latency, and cost.Engineer for enterprise trust by implementing tenant isolation, authorization, auditability, data minimization, and safety features such as prompt-injection defenses and safe rollbacks.Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, Security, Support, and Customer Success to translate needs into technical solutions and drive product outcomes.Contribute to the development of reusable libraries, reference implementations, and best practices for applied AI engineering within the organization.
