Senior Full Stack Engineer (AI)

ABOUT SENATRA Senatra builds AI-powered technology that supports older Australians and their families. We are building a high-quality digital product in a sensitive, high-trust environment, combining web, mobile and AI-enabled experiences. THE ROLE We are looking for a hands-on Senior Full-Stack Engineer to take ownership across our web application, mobile experience, backend services and AI-enabled capabilities. You will write production code, ship end-to-end features, review pull requests, make pragmatic engineering decisions and contribute to the reliability of a product used by customers every day. This is a full-time, permanent and fully on-site role in Hampton, Melbourne. WHAT YOU’LL DO Build and maintain web applications using Next.js, React and TypeScriptDevelop and ship mobile functionality using React Native and Expo for iOS and AndroidDeliver full-stack features across user interfaces, backend services, APIs, databases and integrationsBuild and improve AI-enabled product features using LLMs, structured outputs, prompt design and evaluation practicesContribute to voice-agent and conversational-AI capabilities, including telephony, real-time audio and voice workflowsDesign and maintain reliable data models, APIs, authentication and access-control patternsMaintain production quality through testing, code review, monitoring, debugging and incident responseWork with product and leadership to turn customer needs into well-scoped, high-quality releasesHelp strengthen engineering standards, documentation and practical AI-assisted development workflows WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Essential experience 5–8 years of commercial full-stack software-development experienceStrong production experience with TypeScript, React and Next.jsExperience building and shipping production applications using Node.js and relational databases, preferably PostgreSQLExperience with React Native and Expo, including at least one shipped iOS or Android applicationExperience delivering consumer or B2B software used by real customersExperience integrating LLMs or AI capabilities into production workflowsPractical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Aider or equivalentExperience with cloud-hosted production systems, CI/CD, monitoring and debuggingAbility to work independently, own technical outcomes and collaborate through substantive code reviewAvailability to work full-time and on-site in Hampton, Melbourne HIGHLY REGARDED Experience with voice AI, voice agents, telephony, WebRTC, real-time audio, speech-to-text, text-to-speech or conversational interfacesExperience with backend frameworks such as NestJS, Express or similarStrong PostgreSQL schema-design experience, including row-level security or comparable fine-grained access controlsExperience designing reliable APIs, integrations and data-processing workflowsExperience in health technology, fintech, privacy-sensitive consumer products or another regulated environmentFamiliarity with Australian Privacy Act principles, security-by-design or Australian data-residency requirementsExperience with Docker, AWS, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, monorepos or TurborepoA GitHub repository, portfolio, technical writing or other public work that demonstrates how you build HOW WE WORK Senatra is an AI-first engineering team. AI tools are part of the daily workflow, but engineers remain accountable for architecture, security, testing, edge cases and production outcomes. We value practical ownership over process. Engineers are expected to write code, review code, improve systems and make good decisions with a clear focus on customer impact and reliability. We use peer review, automated testing and clear engineering standards to maintain quality while moving quickly.
