Senior Software Developer – Data Engineering

Work Conditions This is a hybrid role in Toronto. There may be some planned off-hours work to support business processes. In this role the candidate will work in a team of software developers, accountable for automating, standardizing, and building data engineering processes for analytic applications across various lines of businesses. The curation and transformations of the data and the underlying processes are managed by Customer Data Engineering (CDE) under Canadian Personal and Business Banking, Data AI Transformation and Analytics (D.A.T.A.) division. This position will require the individual to provide technical insight and design software applications for ETL pipelines that deliver innovative business solutions. The candidate will use their knowledge of programming tools coupled with software development life cycle (SDLC) principles and problem-solving capabilities to deliver robust automated processes. They will continuously look for ways to improve the efficiency and lifecycle of the jobs and will enforce development best practices in building and sustaining an efficient, reliable and scalable environment. Accountabilities Analysis and DesignResponsible for analysis and design to create efficient data flows that support business processesPerforms detailed impact analysis to assess business requirementsCreates architectural design to create and implement automated code processesCreates functional test plans for appropriate level of testingProvides awareness of changes and associated impacts to the environment Development and DeliveryResponsible for developing robust, efficient, and scalable applications for the businessCreates test plans and performs appropriate functional testing on the processContributes to the continuous improvement of development best practices and standards within the software development life cycle frameworkEnsures successful delivery and execution of the transformation processesCollaborates and provides feedback to peers and ensures standards are maintainedPrepares process documentation and communicates issues and resolutions Operations and SupportDevelops good working relationship with internal technology teams and business partnersTakes ownership of data issues, communicates and notifies appropriate teams as neededConsults with support teams to identify and resolve issues, and prevent reoccurrencesPerforms periodic review of the processes to identify any opportunity for improvement and make recommendations as neededMaintains good knowledge of emerging business needs to enable better customer experience Qualifications Knowledge University or college degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or equivalent4+ years of working experience in Information technology, ETL development, analytics, data modeling, data science or relatedExperience with programing languages, SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and Unix scriptingExperience with ETL tools such as Ab Initio, Informatica or SAS will be an assetKnowledge of job scheduling and orchestration tools such as Autosys and AirFlowKnowledge of relational databases such as Sybase IQ, RedshiftKnowledge cloud native tools and data modelling tools will be an asset Skills Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skillsCommunicates clearly and concisely, both orally and writtenDemonstrates solid analytical and problem resolving skillsIllustrates decision making, planning, collaboration and influencing skillsExemplifies initiative and creativity to drive solutions Salary: $75,900.00 - $141,900.00 Pay Type: Salaried The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type. Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position. BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
