Description
Embedded Software Engineer – C/C++, STM32, RTOS | Amsterdam [€84K + Equity]
[Water Tech / Scale-up]
My client's embedded team is small, the company is one of the fastest growing tech scale-ups in the Netherlands, and their hardware already runs across well over a thousand locations.
My client is a fast growing Dutch scale-up building smart hydration hardware: connected water dispensers combined with embedded software, cloud software and a digital dashboard, replacing bottled water in office environments.
Their systems are already deployed at scale, running across well over a thousand locations, and the company is one of the fastest growing tech scale-ups in the Netherlands right now.
The embedded team is small, currently a technical lead and a couple of junior engineers, and the codebase carries some of the speed of the company's early growth: a mix of C and C++14, inconsistent design, and test coverage that isn't where it should be yet.
What you'll do
You'll own embedded features end to end, from requirements through implementation, testing and flashing to the hardware, not just handing code over once it compiles.
The platform runs on STM32 microcontrollers, in both RTOS and bare metal environments, and your work touches the interaction between hardware, firmware and the software layers above it, including the digital dashboard and an Android team you'll work closely with.
Roughly half your time goes into new development, the other half into understanding and stabilising existing code.
You'll help move the codebase from C and older C++14 patterns toward modern C++, with the long term goal of reaching C++23, and build out unit and system level testing along the way.
Code reviews and shared standards are part of the job: you're expected to raise the technical bar for the engineers around you, including a couple of promising juniors on the team.
Your profile
5+ years of hands-on embedded development, mostly in C and C++Experience with microcontrollers such as STM32, and a real understanding of how hardware and firmware interactComfortable in both RTOS based and bare metal environmentsExperience testing embedded software at multiple levels, from unit tests to full system tests on real hardwareBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related fieldFluent in English and eligible to work in the Netherlands without visa sponsorshipComfortable using AI coding tools for speed, but you always understand, review and test what ends up running on the hardware
What's in it for you
Up to €84K gross per year, including 8% holiday allowance, based on experience, plus equity in the company through its employee equity plan.
Hybrid setup: 3 days in the office in Amsterdam, 2 days flexible WFH.
On top of that a travel allowance if you live more than 10km away, 26 holiday days, a pension plan, and an Urban Sports Club membership.
