Data Engineering Lead

For the Data & AI department at NN Group IT, we are looking for an experienced Data Engineering Lead / Evangelist who is passionate about data engineering, knowledge sharing, and growing engineering communities. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of data engineering across NN Group while working alongside hundreds of engineers who build data products that create business value every day.As a core member of the Data Engineering Guild, you will inspire and connect more than 350 data engineers and platform engineers across multiple countries and business units. You will help shape how data engineering is practiced at NN, enabling teams to deliver scalable, trusted, and innovative data solutions.You will act as an ambassador for modern data engineering, connecting teams, promoting engineering excellence, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.Key ResponsibilitiesInspire and support a global community of 350+ data engineers and platform engineersOrganize and facilitate guild events, technical meetups, hackathons and community initiativesCreate opportunities for engineers to learn from each other and share successes, challenges, and lessons learnedBuild an open, collaborative engineering culture that encourages experimentation and innovationStay at the forefront of modern data engineering practices and emerging technologiesShare expertise through presentations, demos, workshops, articlesDefine and evolve engineering standards, reusable patterns, architectures, and best practicesPromote pragmatic engineering approaches that improve quality, reliability, and maintainabilityOwn and continuously enhance NN's Data Engineering Learning Track within the Data Literacy ProgramDevelop engaging learning journeys and assessmentsMentor engineers at different stages of their careersHelp individuals and teams identify growth opportunities and develop new skillsWork closely with data engineering teams, platform teams, architects, data scientists, and technology leadersPartner with guilds and communities across Data, AI, Architecture, and EngineeringInfluence and align teams without direct authorityHelp create a consistent and high-quality engineering experience across the organizationWhat we offer youNN invests in an inclusive, inspiring work environment and in skills and competences for the future. As part of this role, you will have an employment contract under the local collective labour agreement (CLA) from one of the NN International countries participating in this workstream. Who you areYou are an experienced data engineer who enjoys helping others succeed as much as solving technical challenges. You combine strong engineering skills with curiosity, communication, and a passion for building communities.Required:Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent experience5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, or a related fieldStrong hands-on experience with modern data platforms and lakehouse technologies (Databricks experience is a strong plus)Deep understanding of data engineering principles, including data modeling, distributed processing, ingestion patterns, transformation frameworks, data quality, and observabilityExperience designing and promoting reusable engineering practices and standardsStrong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiencesComfortable influencing across teams and organizational boundariesA continuous learning mindset and enthusiasm for sharing knowledgeNice to have:Active contributor to open-source projects, technical communities, blogs, podcasts, meetups, or conferencesExperience running engineering guilds, communities of practice, academies, or enablement programsExperience creating technical training, workshops, hands-on labs, or certification programsExperience working in a platform engineering, center-of-excellence, or federated engineering organizationWho you will work withYou will be part of the Data & AI enablement ecosystem, working across the organization to strengthen data engineering capabilities.
