The Opportunity At VHH, technology is a means of improving how healthcare is delivered. As a Full-Stack Software Developer, you will support and enhance VHH's portfolio of digital health tools, and design and build new ones. Reporting to the Director of IT & Digital Innovation, you'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of IT professionals, clinical specialists, and subject matter experts to ensure our tools fulfill their clinical purpose while meeting the highest standards for security and reliability. This role matters because the tools you support and build directly affect the health and wellbeing of the people and communities we serve. Your work will help VHH reimagine how people access care to meaningfully improve health outcomes throughout the province. What You’ll Do: Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain full-stack web applications, including responsive front-end interfaces (React) and backend services and APIs (Node.js).Design and implement secure integrations with internal systems, third-party platforms, and healthcare applications to support clinical, administrative, research, and operational workflows.Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to translate user and business needs into technical requirements.Develop, deploy, and support applications hosted primarily on AWS, using cloud services for hosting, identity management, storage, databases, monitoring, and backup/disaster recovery.Build and maintain automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.Develop and integrate AI-enabled features, including large language models, machine learning models, document processing, and transcription, using AWS AI/ML services.Design and manage SQL and NoSQL databases, including schemas, queries, indexes, and migrations.Implement secure authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, logging, and auditing in line with organizational privacy, security, and healthcare requirements.Troubleshoot application, database, integration, and deployment issues; participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and release planning.Maintain technical documentation and evaluate new tools, frameworks, and services as needed. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field.An equivalent combination of education and substantial hands-on experience may be considered.Demonstrated professional experience in full-stack software development with strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.Experience building front-end applications with React (or a comparable framework) and backend APIs with Node.js (or a comparable framework).Experience deploying and supporting production applications on AWS.Experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases.Experience with Git-based source control, automated testing, and CI/CD practices.Strong understanding of secure software development, including authentication, authorization, encryption, logging, and auditing, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently across multiple technical priorities.
