THE ROLE We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our Digital Products team. This role is ideal for a highly capable engineer who combines strong frontend expertise with solid backend development experience and a passion for building high-quality software. While the role is primarily focused on developing and enhancing our web platforms using React and TypeScript, you will also contribute to backend services, APIs, integrations and platform capabilities that power our digital products. Working closely with Product, Editorial, Commercial and Engineering teams, you will take ownership of features from concept through to production, helping to deliver exceptional digital experiences to hundreds of thousands of readers every day. You will play a key role in promoting engineering excellence across the team through mentoring, code reviews, technical leadership and the adoption of best practices. Experience working within digital publishing, content management systems and high-traffic consumer-facing websites is highly desirable. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Design, develop and maintain modern web applications using React, TypeScript and JavaScriptOwn features throughout their lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to deployment, monitoring and continuous improvementBuild scalable, maintainable and reusable frontend architectures and componentsDevelop and integrate backend services, APIs and platform capabilities using TypeScript and JavaScript technologiesCollaborate with Product, Editorial, Commercial and Design teams to deliver high-quality customer experiencesIntegrate frontend applications with CMS platforms, content APIs and other business-critical systemsChampion engineering excellence through clean code, testing, code reviews and continuous improvement practicesDrive improvements in application performance, accessibility, reliability and securityEnsure security best practices are embedded throughout the software development lifecycleContribute to integration architecture and the successful delivery of platform and third-party integrationsMentor and support less experienced engineers through coaching, pairing and constructive feedbackContribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-makingTroubleshoot production issues and participate in operational support when requiredContribute to CI/CD pipelines, development tooling and engineering best practices SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Essential 8+ years of professional software engineering experienceStrong commercial experience developing web applications using ReactExpert knowledge of TypeScript and modern JavaScriptExperience building and maintaining scalable, customer-facing web applicationsExperience designing, consuming and integrating RESTful APIs and backend servicesStrong understanding of software design principles, application architecture and modern development practicesDemonstrated commitment to code quality, testing and maintainabilityExperience managing application and integration security considerations, including secure development practices and vulnerability managementExperience delivering and supporting complex system integrationsExperience with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development practicesExperience working with Git, CI/CD pipelines and Agile delivery methodologiesStrong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skillsProven ability to independently own and deliver complex features and initiativesExperience mentoring, coaching or supporting less experienced engineers Highly Desirable Experience working within digital media, publishing or subscription-based businessesExperience working with enterprise CMS platforms or headless CMS solutionsExperience developing backend services using Node.js and TypeScriptExperience building high-traffic, content-rich consumer websitesExperience contributing to technical strategy and architectural decision-makingExperience with cloud-native applications and servicesExperience with AWS services and cloud infrastructureFamiliarity with analytics, personalisation, audience engagement or subscription platformsTech StackFrontend: React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Responsive Design, AccessibilityBackend: Node.js, TypeScript, RESTful APIs, Service IntegrationsContent & Publishing: CMS Platforms, Headless CMS Architectures, Content APIs, Publishing WorkflowsDevOps & Quality: Git, CI/CD Pipelines, Docker, Monitoring and ObservabilityDatabases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or similarCloud: AWS (preferred), Azure or GCPTesting: Jest, React Testing Library, Detox or similar frameworks Why Now?
