Description The Defense Group at Leidos currently has an active, immediate opening for a Field Engineer (Huntsville, AL / with OCONUS Deployment) to provide contract engineering and technical support for the General-purpose Electronic Test System (GETS-1000) and Test Program Sets (TPSs). This position features a structured, multi-phased career path designed to build a "ready-now" regional asset: Phase 1 (Training): Based at our Huntsville, Alabama office. The selected candidate will be paired with mentors from our engineering, test, and maintenance departments for a 4-6-month on-the-job training period focused on the operation, maintenance, and fault isolation of the GETS-1000 platform.Phase 2 (Interim Maintenance – As Needed): If an overseas deployment vacancy is not immediately available upon successful completion of training, the employee will integrate directly into our local Huntsville maintenance team, providing continued technical support until a regional need arises.Phase 3 (Operational Deployment): The Field Engineer will serve as a critical regional backfill. The candidate must be fully prepared to deploy to a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) host nation for a minimum of one (1) year to support active operations as mission needs arise. Primary Responsibilities Huntsville Training Phase (4-6 Months): Complete comprehensive hands-on training; assist local engineering teams with system evaluations, software updates, and depot-level maintenance to build technical baseline.Interim Maintenance Phase (Contingent): In the event of deployment delays, support the Huntsville maintenance team by performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of GETS-1000 systems used for development, integrate and test new systems, deploy to customer sites to install new systems, and assist with conducting GETS operator and maintenance training courses. Operational Deployment Phase (Minimum 1 Year OCONUS): Provide direct, on-site technical support to customer operators within the assigned GCC country. You will assist customer operators with various tasks including:Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS)Running TPSsTroubleshootingRemoval and installation of major assembliesPC backups and disaster recovery proceduresInstall system software updates and TPS software revisionsReplace station instruments with spares to facilitate calibration cycleCoordinate repair and return of instrumentsSubmitting field problem reports for resolution Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related technical field with 4–8 years of relevant experience.Absolute flexibility and willingness to relocate to any designated GCC country for a minimum of one year immediately following the training and/or interim maintenance phase.Demonstrated basic electrical and mechanical aptitude.Ability to read, interpret, and accurately follow complex technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.Proven ability to systematically apply fault detection and fault isolation procedures.U.S. citizenship.Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. Passport.Ability to meet and maintain all U.S. Government Security Clearance Requirements.Must be legally eligible to obtain and maintain a work visa in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member countries. Preferred Qualifications Possession of an active U.S. Passport and active Secret Security Clearance at the time of hire.Prior direct experience with GETS-1000 hardware and Test Program Sets (TPSs).Familiarity or technical experience with PATRIOT or THAAD air defense systems.Previous experience working in an OCONUS environment, with a strong preference for prior deployment within GCC countries.
