Open-level opportunity suitable for early-career and experienced engineers, focused on challenging technical problems and high-quality software development.
Description
Software Engineer | Oxford | Onsite, 5 Days Per Week | Permanent
C++ | Python | Linux
We’re partnering with an established, engineering led organisation in Oxford that’s looking for a talented Software Engineer to join its growing development team.
The interesting thing about this opportunity is that the team is genuinely open on level.
You could be an earlier career engineer looking to accelerate your development, or a highly experienced engineer looking for genuinely challenging technical work.
What matters most is strong technical ability, a passion for software engineering and the ability to solve difficult problems.
You’ll be working on sophisticated backend systems that support business critical applications, using C++ and Python in an environment where software quality, innovation and continuous improvement are taken seriously.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Designing, developing and maintaining software using C++ and Python
• Building reliable, scalable backend systems and services
• Writing clean, well tested and maintainable code
• Solving complex technical problems alongside experienced engineers
• Contributing across the full software development lifecycle, from design through to deployment and ongoing support
• Participating in a shared on call support rota
What We’re Looking For
We’re deliberately not putting a particular seniority against this role.
We’re much more interested in your technical ability and approach to engineering.
You’ll ideally have experience across many of the following:
• Commercial software development using C++ and Python
• Developing software within Linux environments
• Backend systems and services
• Git and version control
• Strong software engineering principles
• Complex technical problem solving
• Working effectively within a collaborative engineering team
A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or another STEM discipline would be beneficial, although equivalent commercial experience is equally welcome.
Nice to Have
Experience in any of the following would be useful, but isn’t essential:
• Distributed systems or scalable backend architectures
• TCP/IP networking
• SQL and data processing
• Pandas
• Bash scripting
• Large and complex datasets
• Financial services, scientific computing or another performance driven technical environment
What’s on Offer
• Salary and package dependent on experience and level
• Genuinely challenging technical projects
• A collaborative engineering culture with real ownership and autonomy
• Ongoing professional development and long term career progression
• The opportunity to work alongside highly capable software engineers
Location
This is a full time, office based position in Oxford, with the team working onsite five days per week.
Applicants must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK as visa sponsorship is not available.
Interested?
If you’re a C++ and Python engineer who enjoys solving difficult problems and building high quality software, we’d love to hear from you.
You don’t need to match a particular level or job title.
