At Metso, you’re supported by a growth culture built on safety, wellbeing, inclusion and collaboration. This is your opportunity to make an impact and rise above the possible. Job posting end date: 09/06/2026 INTRODUCTION Would you like to build and test software that controls real heavy machinery, not just something that runs on a screen? We are looking for a DevOps / Software Engineer to join Metso’s Aggregates software team in Tampere. Your main focus will be test automation and DevOps, while you will also contribute to software development as project needs change. You will work on a new generation of software for mobile crushers (Lokotrack). These are large industrial machines that turn bigger rocks into smaller material. The machines contain many hardware units that monitor and control different functions, and our software connects these units, supports the operator interface and collects data for further processing. We are open to different levels of professional experience. You may have gained your skills through software or DevOps work, internships, studies or personal projects. You do not need previous experience in heavy industry, but you should have enough practical knowledge to work with CI/CD, scripting, automated testing and container technologies. What matters most is that your technical background matches the role and you are interested in working with physical devices as well as software. The position is based in Tampere and offers flexible hybrid working. As the simulators and hardware are located at the office, you will need to work on site when the tasks require it. The expected salary range is EUR 3850–4500 per month, depending on your relevant skills and experience. TEAM YOU BELONG TO You will join Metso’s Aggregates Business Line’s software team, a group of more than ten people working on the software, applications and solutions used in crusher machines. The team includes software developers, UX designers, trainees, a thesis worker and a project manager. You will also work closely with testers and with hardware, mechanical and chief engineers who know the machines in detail. The team is currently renewing software that was originally created more than ten years ago. The new system is being designed around modular, plug-and-play hardware units that can be added or removed in different combinations. This creates a wide range of machine configurations that need to work reliably together and be tested efficiently. The team follows Scrum. Work is planned in sprints, but not everything is decided for you. You will be encouraged to suggest tasks, question current ways of working and bring your own ideas on how to solve technical problems. What You’ll Do In your first 12 months, you’ll: Build your understanding of the crusher software, hardware units, simulators and testing environment, and start working independently on agreed DevOps and test automation tasks. Create and improve automated test cases and test frameworks that help the team test different machine and hardware configurations more efficiently. Contribute to the implementation and integration of hardware units in the new generation machine software, moving between DevOps and software development work as project needs change. Your responsibilities will include: Create and maintain automated tests for software that interacts with machine hardware and simulators.Work with testers, software developers and engineers to define what needs to be tested and how.Build or improve test frameworks when a suitable framework does not yet exist.Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines that support software build, test and delivery work.Automate development, build, testing and release activities.Monitor test results, build health, code coverage and other software quality information.Develop, debug and test software in Linux-based environments.Support the implementation and integration of modular hardware units so that individual components and complete machine configurations work together. The machine software is built mainly in C and C++, with a Qt/QML operator interface, and our DevOps and test automation work is largely Python and script based. When you contribute to software development, you will mostly work in the C/C++ codebase alongside. Strong C/C++ skills are not required from day one, but a willingness to work in that codebase is part of the role. The balance between DevOps and software development will change according to project needs. You may focus fully on one area for several weeks or months before moving to the other. DevOps and test automation are the primary focus of the role. What You'll Bring Must-have requirements: Experience with C or C++ development.Basic knowledge of Linux-based development environments. Some hands-on experience with scripting, for example Python and Bash. This can come from work, studies, internships or personal projects.Experience with docker, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or another CI/CD platform beyond only introductory-level exposure.Basic theoretical knowledge and some practical experience in software testing, test automation or quality assurance.Understanding of debugging, testing and secure coding practices.A collaborative working style and the ability to discuss technical questions with developers, testers and engineers from different disciplines.Willingness to work with physical devices, hardware units and simulators at the Tampere office when the work requires it. Nice-to-have requirements: Experience with embedded Linux or Yocto-based environments.Familiarity with industrial communication technologies such as CAN, CANopen, J1939 or other fieldbus protocols.Experience with monitoring or observability tools such as Grafana.Knowledge of AI-assisted software development and a responsible approach to reviewing AI-generated code. What’s In It For You This role gives you the chance to see how software behaves outside a desktop environment. The code and test systems you work on support machines that operate in the field, where reliability and safety matter every day. You will learn how large industrial machines work, how software connects with hardware, and how different engineering disciplines come together in one product. You will also have room to shape how the work is done. The team is moving from manual testing towards wider test automation, and some frameworks and working methods are still being built. You will not be expected to arrive knowing everything, but you will be expected to learn, ask questions and bring ideas. The team supports the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools, while requiring all generated code to be properly understood and reviewed. You will have access to Metso’s benefits for employees in Finland. These include Occupational healthcare through Mehiläinen,Membership in the Lokomo Sickness Fund,Epassi Flex for sport, culture, commuting and wellbeing, and a supported lunch benefit.Local hobby clubs and activities in Tampere through Lokomon henki and the Metso Young Professionals communityLaptop and other work equipment, plus a mobile phone and company-paid subscription GET IN TOUCH Want to rise above the possible with us?
