Backend Software Engineer - eMobility

Beep is a Singapore-headquartered IoT platform provider, with an established track record recording over 1.5 million monthly transactions across thousands of touch-points for customers in 5 countries in South-East Asia, including nationwide initiatives with the Singapore government and leading FMCGs. Voltality is Beep’s eMobility arm, focused on providing a borderless, interoperable charging experience. Having built Southeast Asia's largest EV roaming network in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand with over 9000 live charge points to date, Voltality is now scaling up its operations into Thailand with a key launch partner. You will be working on a large scale initiative for a leading industry player with immediate timelines for launch within Thailand on an accelerated timescale. Backed by a variety of established venture, strategic and institutional funds with a strong focus on South-East Asia, this expansion aims to further enhance regional connectivity, charging systems and broadening the network's reach. By partnering with local operators and leveraging cutting-edge technology, Voltality is poised to support the growing demand for electric mobility. As a Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in constructing a highly scalable platform for revolutionary new solutions that power the future of electric mobility and unattended retail. This role is remote, but you are expected to be able to travel within Greater Bangkok for meetings and limited product testing when necessary. Our HQ teams in Singapore will fly in to accompany you for a portion of these meetings so you will not be expected to always operate fully independently. Key Responsibilities: ● Engineering backend services that support the management and operation of the EV Charging network. ● Building products to facilitate the adoption of Electric Vehicles in the region through seamless and open payments, as well as other critical functions. ● Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features. ● Support our business and accounts teams in physical and online discussions with partners for collaboration, alignment, and scoping work. ● Optimizing system performance for scalability and reliability. ● Participating in architectural discussions and decisions, providing insights based on experience. ● Staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies. ● Conducting code reviews and pair programming to ensure high code quality and to share knowledge among peers. Requirements: ● A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent working experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields. ● 1-2 years of experience with Backend software development. ● Strong communication skills (written and spoken) in both English and Thai. ● Comfortable working in a Unix/Shell environment. ● Prior experience working with relational (preferably PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL databases. ● Familiarity with DevOps and Cloud deployment tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP. ● Experience developing highly-available systems using a microservice architecture. Optional but preferable skills: ● Experience working with Golang and TypeScript. ● Knowledge of how to optimize and tune server performance (caching, SQL). ● Experience working with event-driven systems. ● Experience building data pipelines. ● Working understanding of networking (TCP). ● Knowledge of charging protocols such as OCPP and OCPI. ● Ability and license to drive (passenger car) If you have what it takes to be part of a rapidly-iterating, dynamic, and agile startup environment, we want you!
