About This Role: We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join our Engineering team in Munich or remotely from Germany. In this role, you will design, build, and scale high-performance backend systems using modern Java technologies and cloud-native architectures. You will work on complex systems where reliability, clean architecture, and strong engineering standards matter, helping Atolls build backend services that can support growth across markets and platforms. Responsibilities: As a Senior Java Backend Engineer, you will: Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java 17 or other recent versions (11+).Build and evolve microservice-based and event-driven architecturesDevelop APIs using GraphQLWork with Spring Boot and Spring Reactive (WebFlux)Design and optimize data models using MySQL and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB or MongoDB)Ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability of backend systemsWrite clean, maintainable, and well-tested codeImplement performance testing and end-to-end testingCollaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOpsContribute to architectural decisions and technical best practicesMentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership when neededCollaborate on AI-enabled features, including prompt engineering and backend integrations Your Profile: 8+ years of professional experience in backend developmentStrong expertise in Java 17 or other recent versions (11+)Extensive experience with Spring Boot and Spring ReactiveSolid knowledge of MySQL and experience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB or MongoDB)Hands-on experience with KubernetesStrong understanding of microservice architecture and event-driven systemsExperience building and consuming GraphQL APIsProven experience with performance optimization and testingExperience with end-to-end testing strategiesExperience with prompt engineering for AI-powered applicationsExcellent understanding of software design and architectural patternsAbility to design elegant, scalable, and maintainable system architecturesStrong communication skills and excellent English proficiency Bonus points: Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure)Experience with CI/CD pipelinesExperience building AI-integrated backend systems Our hiring process: TA Call: Meet one of our Talent Experts and get to know Atolls better.Technical Round: Focus on the technical aspects of the role (Through a Live Case), and meet your potential manager.Final Round: Meet other Atollians 🏝️ It varies from 1 to 3 interviewsSome processes might slightly change according to needs Ready to apply?
