About The Role As a Principal Java Engineer within our Tech Department, you will play a pivotal role in providing technical leadership for GTI's core SaaS platform. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will be responsible for defining the architectural vision, setting engineering standards, and guiding the development teams towards delivering secure, scalable, and resilient solutions. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in Java and distributed systems, capable of translating complex business requirements into robust technical solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Data, Operations, DevOps, and QA to ensure seamless integration and operational excellence. While this position does not involve direct line management, mentoring engineers and fostering technical excellence across teams will be a core aspect of your responsibilities. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving performance optimization, security best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives to support the company's strategic objectives. Qualifications Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experienceExtensive experience in Java software development, with a strong background in technical leadership rolesExpertise in Java 21 (LTS), Spring Framework 6, Spring Boot 3.5, Hibernate ORM 6.6+, and JPAProficiency with enterprise application architecture, microservices, API design, and event-driven architecture (RabbitMQ)Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalability, resilience, and performance tuningExperience with cloud-native technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins)Knowledge of application security principles, OWASP guidelines, and secure SDLC practicesFamiliarity with front-end frameworks such as Angular or similarStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsProven ability to influence technical direction through leadership and collaboration Responsibilities Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for GTI's SaaS platform architecture and development practicesDesign, implement, and review high-quality Java and full-stack solutions, APIs, and integrationsLead initiatives to enhance system performance, scalability, and resilienceDrive security best practices, vulnerability remediation, and secure software development lifecycle adherenceCollaborate with Data, Operations, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure architectural alignment and operational excellenceTranslate business and product requirements into robust technical solutionsSupport and mentor engineering teams to achieve technical excellence and delivery goalsDefine and maintain engineering standards, architectural principles, and best practices across teamsConduct design and code reviews to ensure quality, maintainability, and consistencyLead root cause analysis and resolution of complex production issues, ensuring system reliability and operational performancePromote observability, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives within production environmentsPartner with DevOps and Operations teams to maintain system stability and optimize operational metrics Benefits Competitive salary package aligned with industry standardsHybrid working model combining remote and on-site work in Wallingford, UKOpportunities for professional development and continuous learningParticipation in innovative projects utilizing the latest technologiesSupportive and collaborative work environmentHealth and wellness programsGenerous leave policies and work-life balance initiatives Equal Opportunity GTI is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
