Platform Engineer

Cloud Infrastructure / VDI Platform Specialist – Windows on AWS We are looking for an experienced VDI / Windows Platform Specialist to take end-to-end ownership of a Windows-based end-user compute platform on AWS within the energy sector. The platform provides a stable, secure, and scalable environment for engineering software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD, Ansys) through AWS WorkSpaces and Windows EC2. Key Responsibilities Windows platform ownership & VDI engineering Design, implement and operationalize Windows platform standards for AWS WorkSpaces and Windows EC2, ensuring stability, scalability, and operational readinessDeploy, configure, and scale AWS WorkSpaces, including performance tuning, cost considerations, and resilience patternsEnsure engineering software can be reliably installed and operated, including dependency handling, storage access patterns, and license-related connectivityPlatform automation (IaC, image lifecycle, patching) Establish and maintain Infrastructure as Code in Terraform for WorkSpaces, Windows EC2, and supporting servicesDefine and implement image lifecycle management using Packer (build, versioning, release promotion, rollback)Implement patching, compliance, and configuration management with AWS Systems Manager (SSM)Identity, access, and security Implement and support integrations across Active Directory / Kerberos and AWS IAM for authentication and authorization patternsOperate the platform in alignment with established security standards and best practicesFile services & end-user data access Design and implement secure, performant file access using Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, AWS Storage Gateway (File Gateway), and AWS DataSyncEnsure permissions (SMB/NTFS), connectivity, and operational procedures support day-to-day and engineering workloads Required Experience 3+ years hands-on experience with AWS WorkSpaces and Windows platform operations3+ years experience with Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)3+ years experience with Packer (Windows image build and lifecycle)3+ years experience with AWS Systems Manager (SSM) — patching, automation, compliance3+ years experience with GitHub Workflows (pipeline automation, controls, approvals)3+ years experience with Python for automation and tooling Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting engineering/CAD/GIS/CAE software in VDI environmentsExperience designing file services for Windows workloads on AWS (FSx/SMB at scale)Relevant AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect or SysOps)Experience with Active Directory and Kerberos in hybrid/cloud setups, integrated with AWS IAMConsiderable Windows OS expertise (configuration, hardening, troubleshooting, patching)
