Role Type Permanent What You'll Be Doing As a Windows & Unix Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of Avon’s enterprise server environments across Windows, Linux, and AIX platforms. Working as part of our infrastructure support team, you'll provide Level 2 operational support, manage virtualised environments, maintain system compliance, and help keep critical business services running smoothly. You'll collaborate closely with application, network, storage, and security teams to resolve complex issues, support upgrades and migrations, and continuously improve the reliability and resilience of our technology landscape. Key Responsibilities Building, configuring, and maintaining Windows, Linux, and AIX servers, virtual machines, clusters, and related infrastructure.Monitoring server and virtualisation platform health, performance, and availability, proactively identifying and resolving issues.Executing operating system patching, kernel updates, and security remediation activities within agreed maintenance windows.Investigating and resolving incidents related to server operating systems, authentication services, group policies, access controls, and application dependencies.Supporting Active Directory domain integrations, authentication mechanisms, and access management controls.Managing backup solutions, performing restore testing, and validating disaster recovery readiness.Tracking end-of-life operating systems, platforms, and components, and supporting upgrade and migration projects.Managing certificates, TLS configurations, SSH keys, and security-related settings to maintain compliance with organisational standards.Diagnosing and resolving performance issues across CPU, memory, storage, network, and system resources.Ensuring antivirus and endpoint detection tools are operating effectively and addressing identified gaps.Collaborating with application, network, storage, and security teams to resolve cross-functional technical issues.Implementing, maintaining, and optimising monitoring tools, dashboards, thresholds, and alerts to improve operational visibility.Participating in disaster recovery exercises, failover testing, and recovery validation activities.Maintaining accurate documentation, operational runbooks, system diagrams, asset records, and CMDB information.Producing operational metrics and KPI reporting, including system availability, patch compliance, backup success rates, incident trends, and capacity insights.Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, operational excellence activities, and infrastructure modernisation programmes. What We're Looking For Proven experience supporting enterprise Windows Server environments.Experience administering Linux and/or AIX operating systems within large-scale production environments.Strong understanding of virtualisation technologies, including virtual machine administration and platform support.Hands-on experience with server monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and incident management.Experience managing operating system patching, upgrades, migrations, and vulnerability remediation activities.Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, authentication services, and identity management concepts.Experience supporting backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.Familiarity with security best practices, server hardening standards, least-privilege principles, and compliance requirements.Understanding of certificates, TLS configurations, SSH key management, and secure system administration practices.Experience working with infrastructure monitoring and alerting tools.Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across server, storage, network, and application layers.Strong documentation skills, with experience maintaining operational procedures, runbooks, and CMDB records.Experience working within ITIL-based support environments, including incident, problem, and change management processes.Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical teams.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and service excellence.
