Mid-Level Backend Engineer - Java

Sydney | Hybrid – 3 days in the office $140,000–$160,000 base + super + bonus Join a major Australian financial-services organisation and help deliver large-scale transformation projects within its Cash and Transactional Banking technology team. You’ll work in a fast-paced Agile environment, developing secure and scalable backend services that support critical banking platforms. What you’ll be doing Designing, developing and maintaining Java-based backend applications Building secure RESTful APIs and microservices using Spring Boot Contributing to technical design and solving complex engineering problems Supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes Collaborating with engineers, business teams and delivery partners Contributing to major banking transformation programs Providing occasional support across the frontend where required What we’re looking for Commercial experience with Java, Spring Boot and RESTful APIs Strong understanding of API design principles and industry standards Experience implementing secure APIs using OAuth and JWT Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo and Bitbucket Strong analytical, design and problem-solving capabilities Experience working in an Agile engineering environment Knowledge of J2EE or Struts would be beneficial React experience is advantageous but not essential This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level backend engineer looking to work on complex, high-impact systems within a supportive enterprise technology environment.
