Senior Software Engineer - Clojure/Datomic

About Verified Metrics Verified Metrics is a growing fintech company building software for financial analysis and due diligence. We are a small, Clojure-first engineering team. We care about simple, thoughtful software, strong data models, and giving engineers real ownership of what they build. The Role We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong Clojure experience to join our engineering team in Lisbon. You’ll work closely with our CTO and other engineers, taking ownership of features from idea and design through to production. You’ll have a real voice in technical decisions and the opportunity to shape how we build and scale our product. Our current stack is Clojure and Datomic Cloud, and we are evaluating a move to Datomic Pro. You’ll have the opportunity to be involved in that decision and, if we move forward, help lead the transition. What You'll Do Design, build, and ship features in Clojure across our data model, backend services, and APIsWork with Datomic day to day: schema design, Datalog query patterns, and data modelingHelp evaluate and potentially implement a Datomic Pro setupUse AI coding tools such as Claude Code as part of your everyday development workflowReview, guide, and improve AI-generated code and solutionsWork closely with the CTO and engineering team on technical decisionsTake ownership of features from initial idea through to productionHelp keep our systems simple, reliable, and easy to maintain What We're Looking For Strong, hands-on experience with Clojure in a professional environmentA good understanding of functional programming and data-oriented designExperience working with Datomic or a strong interest in learning itExperience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Pi, Eca, or similar tools in real production workAbility to take ownership and work independently, even when requirements are not fully definedComfortable making technical decisions and explaining your reasoningA practical mindset: you value simple, maintainable solutions over unnecessary complexity Nice To Have Experience with Datomic Pro, especially production setup or migrationsFamiliarity with tools.deps, Integrant, Component, core.async, or other parts of the Clojure ecosystem Our Stack Clojure and Datomic Cloud (AWS), plus the usual supporting infra and tooling around them.
