Intermediate Data Engineer

As an Intermediate Data Engineer within our IDEXX Veterinary Software portfolio, you will help drive the modernization of our data ecosystem by leading data migration initiatives and building scalable cloud-based solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for a data engineer looking to expand their technical leadership skills while making an impact in a meaningful industry. This role is based in London with a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week in our Wimbledon office. In this role, you will help modernize how critical data is migrated, managed, and leveraged across our cloud platforms. Your work will support the continued evolution of ezyVet and help enable future AI-driven capabilities, ensuring veterinary teams have access to secure, scalable, and reliable data solutions. In This Role You will lead the migration of data assets from legacy systems into cloud-native environments using AWS and our bespoke Conversion Framework.You will design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines across hybrid cloud environments.You will build new systems and enhance existing applications that support data migration and platform growth.You will implement .NET-based microservices with strong observability and integration into broader data platforms.You will develop custom ETL pipelines using AWS services, Python, and MySQL.You will design scalable and secure cloud architectures leveraging AWS services including S3, Lambda, EKS, EC2, VPC, and RDS.You will integrate and support both legacy PHP/C# applications and modern cloud-native .NET services.You will implement governance, lineage, monitoring, and observability practices to ensure data quality, traceability, and reliability.You will collaborate with AI and machine learning teams to enable reliable data access for model training and advanced analytics initiatives.You will leverage metadata and structured data models to support AI explainability, auditability, and long-term platform scalability.You will guide engineering teams on best practices for cloud-based data handling, Terraform, infrastructure-as-code, and secure system architecture.You will coach junior developers and collaborate closely with product, platform, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions. What You Need To Succeed Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience3+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields, including recent experience supporting cloud data migration initiativesStrong experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, and LambdaStrong proficiency with MySQL and object-oriented programming principlesExperience developing with PHP, C#, .NET Core, React, and PythonExperience working with AWS EKS and cloud-native architecturesExperience designing and implementing ETL pipelines and data integration solutionsStrong understanding of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized environments such as Docker and KubernetesExperience leading or contributing to cloud migration projects involving legacy and modern systemsExperience working on AI-related projects or supporting AI/ML data workflowsKnowledge of data governance, monitoring, and observability best practicesExperience working with data compliance regulations, including GDPRFamiliarity with technologies such as Kafka, Spark, or FlinkStrong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teamsDemonstrated ability to mentor others and contribute technical leadership within engineering teams What You Can Expect From Us Opportunity for annual bonusesMedical InsuranceCycle to Work schemeWork-from-home and wellbeing stipends10% pension contributionSalary range of £40,000–£50,000Hybrid working modelOpportunities for ongoing learning, development, and career growth Why IDEXX We’re proud of the work we do, because our work matters.
