About Hazel Hazel is building the AI engine for wealth management that helps unlock 10x growth, efficiency and value for financial advisors and their clients in a regulated industry. Since its launch last September, Hazel has organically and rapidly grown its user base. This role is hybrid, with four in-office days per week at our San Francisco FiDi location. The opportunity Altruist is in the midst of an exceptional growth phase and we’re excited to hire a Staff Back End Engineer focused on building innovative Generative AI products for Altruist’s advisors in the newly formed AI Labs team. Title can be flexible depending on experience. Your impact Act as a leader and steward of engineering best practices, helping to mentor other engineers and develop impactful solutions.Analyze and solve complex problems spanning multiple user personas and workflowsFocus on building and scaling services and user facing web applicationsBuild customer centric scalable and performant AI-driven applications and featuresDevelop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ELT processesBuild new data integrations based on established requirementsPerform data analysis to investigate and resolve data issues What you bring Experience - 8+ years of software engineering experience building precise and scalable distributed systems with best engineering practicesExperience with Generative AI frameworks and tools (RAG, Langchain, Vector database and other emerging agentic frameworks).Prior experience delivering impactful Gen-AI products in production.Familiarity with AI/ML use cases such as content generation, summarization or natural language processing(NLP).Familiarity with integrating third-party AI APIs and services using platforms like OpenAI, Hugging Face, and Anthropic.Education - Ideally looking for a B.A. / B.S. degree in relevant fields such as Computer Science or similar Engineering/Mathematics degreesTechnical aptitude - You’re technologically savvy and can easily get up to speed on modern tech stacks (we use Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, AWS, Postgres, Kubernetes)Ownership - The pride you put into every aspect of your work is unparalleled and undeniableSuperb communication - intentional dialogue is a superpower.
