Web Developer

Department: Design Location: Cambridge Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 / year Description We are seeking a Web Developer proficient in word press to host our own websites. This opportunity is for an experienced Web Developer to take ownership of a growing portfolio of company websites while helping shape CGT’s future digital and application development capabilities. This individual will be responsible for the development, management, hosting, security, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of all company websites. They will have strong expertise in WordPress, front-end and back-end development, server environments, website security, integrations, SEO, and web accessibility, including AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) requirements. Key Responsibilities Website Development & ManagementTake ownership of the development and technical management of multiple company websites.Build and maintain responsive websites and web features from concept through development, testing, launch, and ongoing support.Develop and manage WordPress websites, themes, plugins, custom blocks, and Divi-based websites.Troubleshoot and resolve website functionality, performance, compatibility, and technical issues.Manage WordPress updates, upgrades, backups, migrations, deployments, permissions, and configurations.Work closely with the Marketing/Creative team to translate designs and creative concepts into functional websites.Manage website updates, migrations, deployments, and ongoing improvements.Maintain staging environments and support safe deployment workflows.Monitor website uptime, forms, and third-party integrations.Implement responsive front-end updates and page enhancements.Optimize website caching, CDN configuration, and overall performance.Hosting, Security & InfrastructureWork with IT to support website hosting, domains, DNS, SSL, databases, backups, and server environments.Assist with website migrations, hosting changes, and deployments.Maintain website security and address WordPress, plugin, and other web vulnerabilities.Integrations & DevelopmentDevelop and maintain integrations with APIs, CRM/ERP systems, forms, marketing platforms, and other third-party services.Develop custom functionality and automation when required.Support the development of future web applications and digital tools.SEO, Performance & AccessibilityApply technical SEO, performance, and accessibility best practices to website development.Support optimization of site structure, redirects, metadata, schema, page speed, and Core Web Vitals.Develop websites in accordance with AODA and WCAG accessibility requirements. Required Skills & Qualifications 5+ years of professional web development experience, with strong hands-on WordPress experience.Strong experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.Experience with CDNs and advanced performance optimization.Experience managing multiple WordPress websites.Experience migrating websites from external agencies to in-house management.Experience with Divi, custom WordPress themes, plugins, and custom blocks.Experience with APIs, third-party integrations, and databases.Working knowledge of website hosting, DNS, SSL, backups, and deployments.Working knowledge of website security and vulnerability management.Understanding of technical SEO, website performance, AODA, and WCAG.Experience with Git or other version-control systems.Understanding of web design principles and ability to work with and creative teams.Ability to use AI-assisted coding and development tools to improve development efficiency, generate and review code, troubleshoot issues, and automate repetitive tasks.Ability to evaluate and validate AI-generated code for quality, security, performance, and accessibility.Preferred Experience:AWS or other cloud hosting environments.Experience developing mobile and web applications, developing custom WordPress themes and plugins, web applications beyond traditional WordPress websites.React, Vue, Angular, or other modern JavaScript frameworks.CI/CD and automated deployment.CRM, ERP, e-commerce, or marketing automation integrations.Website analytics and performance monitoring tools.Key Attributes: The ideal candidate is:Ability to manage and support multiple priorities.Strong communication skills – listening, clarifying, understanding, speaking and facilitating.Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.A strong hands-on developer who enjoys solving technical problems.Comfortable taking ownership and working independently.Equally comfortable collaborating with business stakeholders.Detail-oriented and focused on producing reliable, secure, high-quality work.Curious and willing to learn new technologies.Able to balance immediate website requirements with longer-term digital development initiatives.Proactive in identifying opportunities to improve the company’s websites, digital processes, security, accessibility, and online presence. EducationDegree in Computer Science, Diploma or Equivalent in Web Design & Development Working Environment:Usually work in the office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.Standard work week, but additionally may work evening, weekends, and additional hours to accommodate activities and priorities. This position is not eligible for Overtime pay.Must have valid driver’s license.Generally requires low physical demands.
