About The Role The Information School's IT department offers an exceptional opportunity for a Web Application Developer to join their dynamic team. Reporting directly to the Web Development Technical Manager, this role involves designing, developing, maintaining, and testing custom web applications that support the school's operational and strategic objectives. The developer will be responsible for creating scalable, secure, and user-friendly web solutions, including public-facing sites and integrated systems, ensuring they meet high standards for performance and security. This position is fully remote, providing flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects from anywhere. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and external partners to deliver innovative solutions that enhance the school's digital presence and operational efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in informatics, computer science, management information systems, or a related technical field.Minimum of two years of web application development experience using PHP, JavaScript, or other object-oriented programming languages.Professional experience with modern web frameworks and current versions of PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL.Deep understanding of HTML, CSS, and adherence to web standards.Experience working with command-line Linux environments and version control systems such as Git.Strong knowledge of web stacks, including installation, support, troubleshooting, security, deployment, and performance monitoring.Familiarity with RESTful web services, JavaScript frameworks, and cross-browser/platform compatibility.Understanding of usability principles, UI design, and accessibility standards (Section 508).Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications and integrations between iSchool systems and third-party platforms, including content management systems and external websites.Develop and enhance public-facing web pages and user interfaces in Drupal, including custom modules, themes, and configurations to support marketing and outreach efforts.Architect and manage database schemas, application environments, and CI/CD pipelines utilizing Docker and GitHub Actions to ensure reliable and scalable deployments.Maintain high code quality through thorough code reviews, refactoring, and automated testing, including unit and functional tests.Monitor system performance, security, and logs proactively to ensure high availability, security, and compliance with encryption and access standards.Collaborate on deploying, scaling, and optimizing the web application stack, including cloud infrastructure, backup strategies, and disaster recovery planning.Create comprehensive technical documentation such as data flow diagrams, process models, and system documentation throughout project lifecycles.Evaluate emerging technologies, including large language models and generative AI tools, to improve development efficiency and code quality.Lead projects from inception through deployment, ongoing maintenance, and eventual retirement, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to specifications.Gather requirements, define project scope, propose timelines, and translate complex change requests into actionable development plans.Develop training materials and support resources, guiding teams through system transitions and change management processes.Participate in cross-functional meetings, university committees, and initiatives to foster collaboration and innovation within the organization.Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in web development.
