Senior Software Engineer New York, NY | $190,000–$220,000 + Equity | 4 Days Onsite We're partnering with a high-growth consumer technology company that's building a new category within the travel and hospitality space. The business has built a large-scale marketplace connecting customers with premium experiences and has already served millions of customers globally. With strong partnerships across the hospitality industry and significant growth ahead, they're now investing heavily in the technology and infrastructure that will support the next stage of the business. The engineering team is still relatively lean, meaning you'll have the opportunity to take significant ownership and have a genuine impact on the direction of the platform. What you'll be doing: Build and launch an external API covering pricing, availability, holds, bookings, changes and cancellationsDesign reliable systems that handle retries, timeouts, duplicate requests and partial failuresEvolve the core booking domain across products, schedules, pricing, inventory and bookingsBuild reusable patterns for third-party integrationsDesign stable, versioned API contracts and webhooksWork closely with Product and Partnerships teams to turn business requirements into scalable technical solutionsImprove reliability through testing, monitoring, dashboards, alerts and tracingHelp make the booking platform flexible enough to support new product categories and distribution channelsLead technical designs, contribute to code reviews and help establish engineering best practicesTake ownership of the systems you build from design through production Tech stack: Backend: Ruby on Rails, Node.js Data: Postgres, MongoDB Search: OpenSearch APIs & Integrations: REST, OpenAPI, Webhooks Infrastructure: AWS, Datadog Testing: RSpec, Playwright What we're looking for: 6+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent experienceStrong backend engineering experience building production systemsExperience designing APIs, transactional systems or integration platformsStrong understanding of relational databases, data modelling and concurrencyExperience working with distributed systems, asynchronous workflows and system failuresAbility to turn complex business requirements into clear technical designsComfortable taking ownership of a major system and being the primary hands-on engineerStrong focus on testing, reliability, observability and production qualityExcellent communication and collaboration skills Experience within marketplaces, travel, reservations, e-commerce, payments, inventory, ticketing or other transaction-heavy environments would be particularly relevant.
