About Guzco Guzco builds the infrastructure European e-commerce merchants use to detect, prevent and resolve fraud, chargebacks and payment disputes before they become financial losses. Every payment method, card network and carrier has its own evidence requirements, formats and deadlines. A merchant selling via Klarna, PayPal and the card schemes such as Mastercard, Visa and Amex is effectively facing a different rulebook for each one. Most merchants write the losses off, not only because the cases are hard to defend, but because responding correctly at that volume is not possible by hand. We connect directly to payment providers, shop platforms, carriers and returns systems, turn fragmented order data into structured evidence, and file representments automatically inside each provider's deadline. The existing tools in this market were built for US card flows and do not take the work over end to end. Guzco is backed by investors with deep payment and e-commerce knowledge, works with e-commerce merchants across Europe, and is based in the centre of Amsterdam. About the role As one of our first engineers, you own the technical direction of the company. You build and scale the core product, make the architecture decisions that determine how far we can go, and hire the engineering team around you. This is a role for a senior engineer who can push both a product and a team to the next level, with real founder-level ownership from day one. Concretely, you will: Own the technical direction of the company and the architecture decisions across data, integrations, security and automation.Build and scale the core product, from PSP and platform integrations to the model that decides what gets filled and when.Translate messy real-world fraud, payment and dispute problems into simple, reliable software.Design automation that operates against hard external deadlines, where a missed window is a lost case and money out the door.Work directly with customers, founders and early design partners, and let what you hear there shape what gets built.Hire and lead the engineering team as we grow. Our stack is backend-heavy: managed services on GCP including Airflow and BigQuery, Postgres, and a server-side rendered web application. You will have room to change what does not serve us, and the responsibility that comes with it. You will be based in Amsterdam and work from the office most of the week. Early-stage decisions are made faster in the same room. About you Senior engineering profile with strong product judgment, able to decide what not to build as easily as what to build.Strong backend and platform experience, comfortable with cloud infrastructure, APIs, data pipelines and third-party integrations.Experience building in a high-growth VC-backed startup, ideally between Seed and Series B.A track record of staying somewhere long enough to truly build and own something, rather than a series of short stints.Able to build fast without creating the kind of technical debt that becomes fatal a year later.Eager, a team player, and a fast learner. You want to build something meaningful from the ground up.Strong communication skills, including with merchants, payment partners and non-technical colleagues. Nice to have Fintech, payments, fraud, risk or e-commerce experience.Hands-on experience with GCP, Airflow, BigQuery and Postgres in production.Experience integrating with payment providers, marketplaces, carriers or ERP and WMS systems.Experience hiring, onboarding and leading engineers.Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
