About Portchain
Portchain exists to make maritime shipping more predictable, efficient, and green.
Around 90% of global trade moves by sea, but coordination between carriers, terminals, and the wider port ecosystem still relies heavily on fragmented data, manual communication, and reactive decisions.
We are building the coordination layer that connects these parties around shared, trustworthy information, while helping them plan better, reduce delays, lower fuel consumption and emissions.
Our products support some of the world’s largest shipping companies, and more than 200 terminals across the globe are connected through the Portchain Network.
The roleWe are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who wants to solve meaningful product problems in a complex, real-world industry.
Our core platform is built with Node.js (TypeScript), backed by PostgreSQL, and runs on Google Cloud.
We manage infrastructure with Terraform, use GitHub Actions for CI/CD, and monitor production through Datadog.
Depending on where you can create the most value, you may strengthen our data platform and APIs, build carrier and terminal workflows in Connect, evolve berth-planning capabilities in Quay, or help develop entirely new terminal products.
You will work closely with Product to understand operational workflows and learn from specific customer problems, turning those insights into simple, scalable capabilities for the wider network rather than one-off custom software.
We expect you to move your own code into production and make sure it works well in the real world, taking pride in the craftsmanship of what you ship.
This includes the user experience, correctness of the underlying data, code quality, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
How we workOur engineers work in focused product teams of four or more engineers, with each team supported by a dedicated Product Manager.
Teams have meaningful autonomy and influence over what they build, how they approach it, and how they deliver it.
We believe in releasing early and often.
We deploy several times a day, and the engineers who build a system also take responsibility for running and improving it.
We focus on customer and user problems rather than technology for its own sake.

How we use AIAI is a core part of our engineering workflow.
We encourage engineers to use it for exploration, implementation, review, and technical sparring.
We also expect responsible AI use.
AI can assist, but the final judgment remains with the engineer.
You should understand, review, validate, and be able to defend the code and decisions you ship.
Protecting customer and company data, maintaining reproducible workflows, and sharing useful practices with the team are part of that responsibility.
We are interested in engineers who use AI to increase their impact, not as a substitute for product judgment, technical understanding, or ownership.
What we’re looking forYou may be a strong fit if you:
Have significant experience building and operating production software, with breadth across backend, frontend, APIs, integrations, or data.Have strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and relational databases.Understand how to design robust APIs and integrate systems with different data formats and reliability characteristics.Have experience deploying and operating software on GCP, AWS, Azure, or a similar cloud platform.Can turn loosely defined product problems into pragmatic solutions and make sensible architectural trade-offs.Listen carefully, communicate clearly, and can build trust with technical colleagues, Product, and non-technical stakeholders.Care about craftsmanship, data correctness, security, and leaving systems in a better state than you found them.Are comfortable taking end-to-end ownership while working collaboratively in an autonomous team.
