Summary ✨ AI‑Generated

Join a hybrid engineering role focused on building software for demanding real-world operational environments. You’ll develop web interfaces and backend APIs, potentially contribute to mobile applications, integrate with external systems, and create diagnostic, telemetry and configuration tools. Regular international travel for field trials and operational exercises is part of the role.

Highlights

Build software used in real-world operational environments, spanning operator interfaces, backend services and external system integrations. The role offers hands-on product development, technical integration work and opportunities to participate in international operational trials.

Description

🚀 We’re hiring: Full Stack Engineer – Defence Systems & Integrations 📍 UK / Hybrid 🌍 Regular international travel, including NATO and allied Operational Exercises ARCANI is looking for a Full Stack Engineer who wants to build software that operates in the real world. We develop HARK – the Hostile Acoustic Recognition Kit, a passive acoustic sensing system designed to detect, classify, localise and track unmanned aircraft. This is not a traditional desk-based software role. You’ll help build the software operators use to interact with HARK, lead integrations into external command-and-control systems, and deploy internationally with our team during military trials and Operational Exercises. //What you’ll be doing 🖥️ Full Stack Product Development - Build and improve the HARK operator UI - Develop web-based and potentially mobile tactical applications - Build backend APIs and services connecting HARK sensors, users and external systems - Develop tools for diagnostics, telemetry, configuration and remote system management - Work directly with our ML and acoustics teams to bring detection and localisation outputs to the operator 🔗 C2 & Partner Integrations You’ll take technical ownership of ARCANI’s integration layer with systems including: - TAK / ATAK / CIVTAK - Cursor-on-Target (CoT) - SAPIENT - MQTT - REST APIs / WebSockets - Tactical C2 systems - Autonomous vehicles and UGVs - Partner sensor networks - Tactical radios and IP networks You’ll work directly with customers, primes and partner engineering teams to understand APIs, SDKs, network constraints and data models — then make the systems work together. 🪖 NATO Operational Exercises & Field Engineering You’ll deploy alongside HARK during military trials and exercises. That may mean: - Configuring HARK sensors and tactical networks - Setting up IP addressing, routing and VPNs - Integrating HARK into a live C2 environment - Diagnosing software, networking or hardware issues in the field - Supporting soldiers, operators and partner engineers - Collecting logs and telemetry - Turning lessons from live exercises directly into product improvements You should be equally comfortable debugging an API integration at your desk and diagnosing a networking problem from a command post during an exercise. // What we’re looking for Strong experience in several of: Software - TypeScript / JavaScript - React / Next.js - Python / Node.js - REST APIs / WebSockets - Databases - Linux / Git Networking - TCP/IP / UDP / multicast - DNS / DHCP / routing - VPNs / firewalls / SSH - Ethernet / Wi-Fi / cellular - Practical network troubleshooting Integrations - Third-party APIs and SDKs - MQTT / message brokers - JSON / XML / protobuf - Real-time event or track data - Geospatial or tracking systems Experience with defence, ATAK, SAPIENT, robotics, drones, counter-UAS, GIS, NVIDIA Jetson, Docker, embedded Linux or tactical communications is a bonus — but defence experience is not required. We’re particularly interested in engineers from robotics, autonomy, drones, IoT, aerospace or industrial systems where software has to interact reliably with real-world hardware. //Who we’re looking for Someone who is: - Technically curious - Practical and hands-on - Calm when systems don’t work as expected - Comfortable troubleshooting under pressure - Highly autonomous - Happy travelling internationally - Comfortable working directly with customers and end users - Excited by defence, autonomy and emerging technology At ARCANI, you might spend one week building product software, the next integrating with an autonomous platform, and the next deploying that integration on a NATO exercise alongside the end user. Build. Deploy. Learn. Improve. If that sounds like the kind of engineering role you’ve been looking for, we’d love to hear from you.
