About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead DevOps Engineer to join our Enterprise Platforms Engineering team.
The role is responsible for designing, building and delivering software development infrastructure that supports internal tools and platform development.
Working closely with engineering and technology teams, the Senior DevOps Engineer will enable reliable and automated application and infrastructure deployment while ensuring alignment with organisational IT, security, architecture and engineering standards.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with teams with different levels of technical experience.
They will contribute to the adoption of DevOps best practices, cloud architecture strategies and engineering standards while supporting the continued evolution of cloud and automation capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Architect, implement and automate CI/CD pipelines across development, staging and production environments.Develop and maintain DevOps engineering standards and best practices.Identify opportunities to improve deployment consistency, reliability and automation.Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions and automated application deployments.Develop tools and scripts to automate deployment and operational processes.Guide project teams toward solutions aligned with agreed architecture, security, engineering principles and standards.Provide technical guidance to teams on application and infrastructure automation.Mentor engineers and facilitate knowledge sharing across teams.Integrate appropriate security controls and testing into DevOps processes.Drive continuous improvements in application design, development and delivery.Improve system reliability and recovery through monitoring, alerting, automation and self-healing capabilities.Promote an automation-first engineering approach.Apply agile practices to support consistent and transparent delivery.Manage and maintain DevOps pipelines and collaborate with development teams on integrated delivery pipelines.Lead technology evaluations and implementations to address gaps in software build, testing, deployment and scalability capabilities.Develop and implement governance processes and tools to support compliance with applicable technology standards and policies.
Requirements
Relevant experience in Information Technology, including significant hands-on experience with DevOps engineering for complex systems.Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and operating CI/CD and infrastructure automation solutions.Strong hands-on experience with Linux operating systems such as Ubuntu.Strong practical experience with Kubernetes and containerised environments.Experience with at least one major public cloud platform, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.Strong understanding of networking concepts, including VPCs, subnets, VPNs, DNS, load balancing and network protocols.Hands-on experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or comparable technologies.Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.Experience building and maintaining CI/CD solutions using technologies such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins or comparable tools.Experience with configuration-management technologies such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet or comparable tools.Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in complex distributed computing environments.Proficiency with Git and experience using collaboration and work-management platforms such as Jira and Confluence.Experience working with APIs, command-line interfaces and SDKs.Experience with API gateway technologies such as NGINX, Apigee or comparable platforms.Strong scripting capability using technologies such as Shell and Python.Experience with logging, monitoring and tracing platforms such as Azure Monitor, Amazon CloudWatch, Zabbix, Elasticsearch/Kibana, Prometheus/Grafana, New Relic, Datadog or Dynatrace.Understanding of SQL and NoSQL database technologies, such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL.
