Java Software Engineer

Work on large-scale banking software where modern Java, engineering discipline and complex business problems come together. We are looking for a Java Software Engineer (Mid-Level) with 3+ years of professional experience to join a long-term engineering team working on large-scale custom applications in the banking sector. You will be part of a Scrum team developing and continuously evolving complex business applications used across a large banking organization. The role combines modern software engineering practices with the challenge of working on systems where technology, scale and complex business requirements come together. What you'll work on Develop and evolve complex enterprise applications using modern Java technologies.Take ownership of features end-to-end — from understanding business requirements and designing the solution through implementation, testing, code review and production deployment.Develop and maintain REST APIs and backend services.Work with relational databases and SQL, primarily Microsoft SQL Server.Write unit tests and contribute to maintaining high code quality through code reviews and automated quality analysis.Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, Tech Leads and other members of the Scrum team.Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, technical discussions and other Scrum ceremonies.Contribute to a structured development workflow based on feature branches, peer reviews, automated quality checks and CI/CD pipelines.Troubleshoot and resolve issues in functionality developed by the team, including production issues when required.Gradually take greater ownership of technical decisions and implementation approaches as you grow into the role. Our technology environment Our main enterprise applications currently run on two modern Java technology stacks, including: Java 21 / Java 25Jakarta EE 10 / Spring Boot 3WildFlyReact, JSF and GraphQLMicrosoft SQL ServerInfinispan / RedisDockerAzure, Azure SQL, Azure Storage and AKSAzure DevOps and CI/CD pipelinesSonarQubeGit and pull-request based development You are not expected to have experience with all of these technologies. Strong Java fundamentals and hands-on experience with a modern Java backend stack are much more important. Experience with both Spring Boot and Jakarta EE is a plus, but expertise in both is not required. What we're looking for Must have 3+ years of professional experience in Java software development, with 3–5 years being the ideal range.Strong knowledge of modern Java, with hands-on experience using features introduced in recent Java versions.Hands-on experience with Spring Boot or Jakarta EE.Good understanding of SQL and relational database systems.Experience developing REST APIs and backend services.Experience with unit testing, preferably using JUnit and Mockito.Familiarity with Git, pull requests and code reviews.Experience working in a collaborative Agile/Scrum environment.Good written and spoken English.A university degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field. Nice to have Experience with both Spring Boot and Jakarta EE.Experience with Docker and containerized development.Familiarity with Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).Experience with Azure or Azure DevOps.Experience with Redis or Infinispan.Familiarity with React or GraphQL.Experience with CI/CD pipelines.Familiarity with Clean Code and Clean Architecture practices.Previous experience working on large-scale enterprise or financial applications.
