AI Engineer, Agentic Systems, SaaS and AI Startup (Amsterdam, Hybrid) KEY POINTS Full time, hybrid, Amsterdam basedBuilding agentic AI systems into a live SaaS product, not research or proof of concept workPython, LLM orchestration, tool calling, retrieval and evalsEarly engineering hire into a team that is being built out from a small senior baseReal ownership of how agent architecture gets designed and shippedCommercial agentic AI experience required, this is not an entry point into the spaceSalary up to €100,000 depending on experience ABOUT THE CLIENT I am supporting a SaaS and AI startup that is scaling its engineering function after finding real traction with its product. The business is putting agentic AI at the centre of the platform rather than bolting a chat window onto an existing tool. That means engineers here own the whole path from model behaviour through to what the customer actually sees. The engineering team is small and being built out deliberately. Whoever joins early shapes the technical direction rather than inheriting it. THE ROLE, AI ENGINEER This is a hands on engineering role focused on the agentic layer of the product. You will design and build multi step agent workflows, get them reliable enough to run in production, and own the evaluation and observability that proves they are working. The hard part here is not calling a model, it is making agents behave predictably at customer scale. You will work closely with the founding engineers and have direct input into architecture. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Design, build and ship agentic workflows in productionImplement tool calling, function calling and multi step reasoning flowsBuild and maintain retrieval pipelines, including chunking, embedding and vector searchOwn evaluation, testing and observability for agent behaviourHandle context management, prompt design and cost and latency optimisationIntegrate LLM capability into the wider product and API surfaceDeploy and support services in cloud infrastructureWork directly with the founding team on technical direction ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE Commercial experience building agentic or LLM powered systems that reached productionStrong PythonHands on with at least one agent or orchestration framework, LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, OpenAI Agents SDK or similarPractical experience with RAG, embeddings and vector databasesUnderstanding of how to evaluate and monitor non deterministic systemsAPI and backend engineering fundamentals, ideally FastAPI or similarCloud experience, AWS, GCP or Azure DESIRABLE, NOT ESSENTIAL Fine tuning, model routing or working with open weight modelsObservability tooling such as LangSmith, Langfuse or Arizepgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate or QdrantTypeScript alongside PythonDocker and KubernetesEarly stage or startup backgroundExperience mentoring other engineers WHAT'S ON OFFER Salary up to €100,000 depending on experienceHybrid working from AmsterdamGenuine ownership of the agentic layer of the productEarly engineering seat in a team that is being built out around you TO APPLY Please apply via this advert or email Daniel.Jones@searchability.com directly.
