Full Stack Mobile Software Engineer - VAZA (Consumer Platform) 🏢 ABOUT VAZA VAZA is a Toronto-based consumer startup building the world's first monetized opinion market. We turn sports, entertainment, and culture debates into interactive, community-driven markets where users can vote for free or back their vote with money (capped at $100), with winners paid out from the losing side through our proprietary algorithm. Instead of opinions disappearing into comment sections, VAZA measures collective conviction and settles debates through consensus. In our first 7 months live, we grew to 280,000+ users and processed over $10M in volume - entirely organically, driven by 50M+ social views. We're building the infrastructure that turns cultural attention into measurable, monetized engagement. 📱 ABOUT THE ROLE We're looking for a Full Stack Mobile Software Engineer to build and scale VAZA's native iOS and Android apps. You'll work directly with the founding team to ship new features, sharpen performance, and deliver the smooth, animation-rich experience our users expect - on a live product where the code you ship is in front of hundreds of thousands of people the same week. Mobile is your home base, but VAZA is a small team and crossover is expected: you'll regularly work alongside our backend (Rust), web, DevOps, and data teams - whether that's extending an API endpoint your feature needs, tuning a query, wiring up CI, or digging into analytics to understand how users actually behave. It's an ideal role for an engineer who wants real ownership, moves quickly, and grows with the company. 🛠️ WHAT YOU'LL DO • Buildand ship features across our native iOS and Android applications. • Own the mobile release process end to end - TestFlight, Play Console, and everything between. • Deliver polished, high-performance UI with complex animation and real-time data. • Maintain and scale a live consumer app serving a fast-growing global user base. • Crossover with the backend team on API design, WebSocket streams, and performance work. • Crossover with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release workflows. • Crossover with the data team on analytics instrumentation and product insights. • Monitor app health and help resolve production issues. • Support payment flows and integrations with payment providers. • Help keep the apps secure, reliable, and fast under load. • Collaborate closely with the executives on product direction and the technical roadmap. 📚 OUR MOBILE STACK iOS • Swift 6 (strict concurrency), SwiftUI, MVVM with Observation. • URL Session with async/await, WebSockets for real-time market data. • Swift Data/GRDB, Keychain-backed auth. • Swift Testing, SwiftLint, fastlane, GitHub Actions → TestFlight. Android • Kotlin 2.x, Jetpack Compose, Material 3, coroutines & Flow. • Hilt, Retrofit + OkHttp, kotlinx.serialization, WebSockets. • Room, DataStore, Keystore-backed auth. • JUnit/Turbine/Compose UI tests, ktlint + detekt, fastlane, GitHub Actions → Play Console. ⚙️ OUR BACKEND STACK • Rust with the Axum framework. • PostgreSQL on AWS RDS. • RESTAPIs and real-time updates over WebSockets. ☁️ INFRASTRUCTURE AND DEVOPS • AWS: ECS Fargate, S3 + CloudFront, ElastiCache (Redis). • Docker containers (cargo-chef for fast Rust image builds). • Infrastructure as code with Terraform. • CI/CD with GitHub Actions. • Mobile release automation: fastlane, code signing & provisioning, TestFlight and Play Console release tracks, staged rollouts. • Automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end). • Monitoring, logging, and alerting - including mobile crash reporting and app health metrics. 💳 PAYMENTS • Whop and other payment providers. • Fiat and crypto on-ramps and off-ramps. 🔍 WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR • A mobile-focused engineer who's comfortable working across the wider stack when needed - the focus is mobile, but expect regular crossover with backend, web, DevOps, and data. • Solid experience building and shipping native mobile applications; deep in at least one of Swift/SwiftUI or Kotlin/Compose and comfortable working in both. • Strong grasp of mobile app architecture, state management, and performance profiling• Good understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL), schema design, and migrations. • Backend experience; Rust is a strong plus, but we'll support the right engineer in ramping up. • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS a plus), Docker, CI/CD, and basic monitoring and observability. • Strong typing habits and clean, tested code. • A product mindset - you care about the user experience, not just the code. ✨ NICE TO HAVE • Experience with live consumer applications at scale. • Payment API integrations (fiat and crypto on/off ramps). • Real-time systems / WebSocket experience. • AppStore and Play Store release experience, including review processes. • Animation-heavy UI work (Core Animation, Compose animations, Lottie). • Solid Git workflow and branching practices. 🚀 WHY VAZA • Real ownership of the entire mobile surface of a live, scaling consumer product. • Direct collaboration with the founding team and technical leadership. • Move fast and see your work in front of real users immediately. • Grow with a high-growth startup at an early stage. 💼 COMPENSATION & DETAILS • Competitive Compensation Package. • Performance-based bonuses as the company grows. • Full-time, 40 hours per week. • Hybrid role.
