Areg.ai is developing autonomous robotic systems for solar plant operations, including inspection, mowing, monitoring, patrol, and future multi-robot field operations.
We are looking for a Senior Robotics Systems Engineer / Autonomous Systems Lead who can define system-level requirements, lead the technical direction of our autonomous systems, and guide the robotics development team toward reliable field-ready products.
Key Responsibilities
• Define system-level requirements for autonomous UGV robots, including navigation, perception, mission execution, safety logic, communication, edge computing, diagnostics, and field operation.
• Lead the technical architecture of the robot autonomy stack, including ROS2-based systems, mission planning, localization, obstacle avoidance, autonomous driving, docking, and fleet operation.
• Own and continuously improve the robot autonomy stack across navigation, mission behavior, sensor fusion, field reliability, communication fallback, localization robustness, and safety-related decision logic.
• Work with software, embedded, electrical, mechanical, AI, and field teams to convert product goals into clear engineering specifications, work items, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
• Guide the implementation of robotics software using relevant technologies such as ROS2, C++, Python, Linux, NVIDIA Jetson, MAVLink, ArduPilot/PX4, perception systems, and edge AI computing.
• Define and improve robot mission logic, including autonomous operation, manual control, fallback modes, communication failover, emergency behavior, field recovery, and diagnostics.
• Lead technical reviews, support field testing, analyze test results, and drive corrective actions to improve robot stability, safety, and repeatability in real operating environments.
• Lead the robotics development team from a technical perspective by defining priorities, structuring work items, reviewing technical decisions, and ensuring that engineering execution is aligned with the overall autonomy architecture and product roadmap.
Required Qualifications
• Strong experience in autonomous robotics, UGVs, AGVs, drones, mobile robots, or similar autonomous systems.
• Solid understanding of autonomous system architecture, including perception, localization, navigation, path planning, mission planning, safety logic, and control systems.
• Practical experience with ROS2 and robotics software development.
• Strong coding skills in C++ and/or Python for robotics, embedded systems, perception, navigation, or autonomy-related applications.
• Experience with edge computing platforms, preferably NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded AI computing units.
• Knowledge of MAVLink, ArduPilot, PX4, or similar autopilot systems.
• Experience defining engineering requirements, system behavior, interfaces, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
• Ability to debug complex system-level problems across software, hardware, sensors, communication, and field conditions.
• Ability to lead engineers, structure technical work, set priorities, and make clear engineering decisions under pressure.
Nice to Have
• Experience with outdoor autonomous robots operating in rough terrain, solar farms, agriculture, mining, logistics, defense, or industrial environments.
• Experience with sensor fusion using RTK GNSS, LiDAR, stereo/depth cameras, IMU, radar, wheel odometry, and SLAM.
• Experience with obstacle avoidance, cost maps, local/global planners, behavior trees, or autonomous mission execution.
• Experience with robot safety, fail-safe behavior, functional safety concepts, or autonomous machine certification.
• Experience with fleet management, Digital Twin interfaces, cloud-to-robot communication, telemetry, or robot diagnostics.
• Experience with field testing, validation plans, acceptance testing, and root-cause analysis.

This is a technical leadership role, not only a software development role.
The person must have a holistic understanding of autonomous robotic systems and be able to see the full picture across software, hardware, sensors, communication, field operation, safety, and product requirements.
The right candidate should be able to define what needs to be built, break complex robotics challenges into clear engineering tasks, prioritize the most important work, and guide the team toward reliable field-ready robots.
We expect this person to lead technical direction, support decision-making, mentor engineers, and ensure that day-to-day development is aligned with the long-term autonomous robotics architecture.
Work Location
The role is based at the company’s robotics factory, located approximately 35 km outside Yerevan.
Company transportation is provided.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is someone who has already worked on real autonomous robotics systems and understands that field robotics is not only about writing code.
The person must be able to connect autonomy software, sensors, embedded computing, mechanical constraints, electrical systems, communication, safety, and field testing into one practical engineering direction.
