Job Overview
At Octave, we're looking for an Onsite Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and making a real-world impact.
In this role, you'll be embedded within our customer's Contact Centre environment, acting as the trusted technical expert for our mission-critical Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) platform.
You'll combine software engineering, systems administration, application support, and customer engagement to ensure our solutions remain reliable, secure, and high-performing.
This is not a traditional desk-bound engineering role.
You'll work directly with operational users, investigate technical issues, analyse system behaviour, implement improvements, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of a platform that supports critical services around the clock.

Please note: This role requires successful completion of a National Police Check and participation in a 24/7 on-call roster.
Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
Technical Support & Operations
Serve as the primary onsite technical representative for Octave solutions within the customer environment.Diagnose and resolve application, infrastructure, database, networking, and system issues.Provide expert guidance on installation, configuration, deployment, commissioning, and maintenance activities.Monitor platform performance and proactively identify opportunities to improve reliability and stability.Implement software updates, patches, configuration changes, and system enhancements.Maintain system availability and performance in a mission-critical 24/7 operational environment.
Software & Systems Engineering
Investigate application behaviour through log analysis, database queries, and system diagnostics.Troubleshoot issues by analysing production code, system integrations, and data flows.Support CI/CD processes, deployments, and release activities.Maintain data quality, system integrity, and platform consistency across environments.Contribute to technical improvements, automation initiatives, and operational best practices.
Customer Engagement
Build strong relationships with customer stakeholders and end users.Develop a deep understanding of customer workflows and operational requirements.Provide exceptional customer service and manage expectations professionally.Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.Identify recurring issues and drive long-term solutions that enhance the customer experience.
Documentation & Project Delivery
Produce clear technical documentation, reports, procedures, and knowledge articles.Contribute to project delivery activities and provide regular progress updates.Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across the platform and customer environment.
Education / Qualifications
Degree qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.Minimum 3 years' experience in software support, application support, systems engineering, DevOps, or a similar technical role.Experience supporting business-critical or customer-facing applications.Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot production code.ITIL Foundation certification (or equivalent operational support experience) is desirable.Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call roster and occasional travel.
Technical Skills
We're interested in engineers who have experience in some of the following areas:
Application Support, Software Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Systems Engineering, or Technical Consulting.One or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, C#, Java, or similar.SQL and relational database technologies.REST APIs, JSON, XML, and web-based technologies.Windows Server and Microsoft technology environments.CI/CD pipelines, release management, and deployment practices.Networking, authentication, virtualisation, and cybersecurity fundamentals.Monitoring, logging, observability, backup, and system management tools.ITIL or other service management frameworks.
