Java Backend Engineer

About the Opportunity A leading global financial institution is looking for a highly skilled Java Backend Engineer to join their Application Development, Support and Engineering Team. What You'll Be Doing Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java Spring Boot / Quarkus Build and maintain microservices architecture for scalability and maintainability Develop REST and SOAP APIs and integrate with enterprise systems Integrate databases using ORM frameworks Develop and maintain messaging services using JMS and Solace Ensure API connectivity using platforms such as Kong or Axway Manage dependencies and build processes using Maven Containerize applications using Docker and deploy on OpenShift and AWS Utilise Azure DevOps (ADO) for CI/CD pipelines and project management Write and maintain unit tests using JUnit and conduct integration testing Document APIs using Swagger and perform performance testing using JMeter Champion Agile practices and coach team members on best practices Collaborate with upstream TP systems, integration, modelling, DBA, messaging, and architecture teams Conduct Code Analysis, Debugging, System Thinking, and Log Analysis What We're Looking For Must Haves: 10+ years of experience in microservice API development using Java frameworks Deep expertise in Java Spring Boot or Quarkus Strong experience in cloud-native microservices and API-first design Hands-on with Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), SKE, and OpenShift Strong database experience — PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar Knowledge of API security — OAuth2, JWT, encryption, and secrets management Experience with JMS, Solace, Kong or Axway messaging and API platforms Proven experience delivering regulatory, risk, or compliance-driven projects in BFSI Strong leadership, vendor coordination, and stakeholder management skills Good to Have: Familiarity with GenAI or Agentic AI tools Experience building FaaS and Dev-in-a-box platforms Hands-on with Observability tools — AppDynamics, ElasticAPM, Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK stack Deep understanding of Agile at scale and enterprise DevOps practices Experience with Hibernate, Apache Struts Knowledge of WebSocket, JSON, XML Experience with both Relational and NoSQL databases
