Location: London, hybrid. 1 to 2 days per week in the office, flexible working around that Contract: Full-time, permanent Salary: £60,000 to £80,000 depending on experience Hours: UK working hours, with daily overlap with our Dubai team (UAE is 3 hours ahead of the UK) Probation: 6 months About the role As a Technical Product Manager at HUKM, you will lead the development and delivery of backend and API-driven products. You will manage development pods, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and drive execution through agile delivery. This is a hands-on technical product role. You will be close enough to the architecture to make real trade-off calls with engineering, and close enough to the client to hold the commercial line on what gets built and why. What you will be doing Work with clients and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical product specificationsLead and manage development pods of 15 to 20 engineers, ensuring effective collaboration and deliveryDefine product roadmaps, prioritise features, and maintain product backlogs for backend and API initiativesDesign and document API specifications, data models, and system architecture alongside engineering teamsRun sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectivesMake technical trade-off decisions balancing business value, technical debt, and engineering constraintsReview technical specifications, API designs, and architecture proposals against product goalsCollaborate with frontend teams, DevOps, and other stakeholders to ensure clean integration and deliveryDefine and track product metrics, KPIs, and success criteria for backend systems and APIsManage stakeholder expectations and communicate progress, technical challenges, and roadmap changesIdentify and mitigate technical risks, blockers, and dependencies across multiple delivery streamsCoach and mentor within the pods to build a culture of continuous improvement What we are looking for 2 to 3 years in technical product management, ideally on backend systems and APIsPrevious hands-on experience as a backend developer or software engineerExperience leading agile delivery teams or development podsStrong grasp of RESTful API design, GraphQL, API versioning, and microservices architectureWorking knowledge of backend technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, or .NETUnderstanding of SQL and NoSQL databases and data modellingFamiliarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and CI/CD, DevOps, and release practicesKnowledge of authentication and authorisation protocols including OAuth2, JWT, and API security best practiceProficiency with API documentation tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI or PostmanExperience with agile tooling such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or LinearStrong technical writing: PRDs, technical specifications, and API documentationComfortable defining and tracking product metrics and KPIs, including A/B testingAble to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholdersAble to prioritise competing demands and influence without direct authority Nice to have • Product management certification such as CSPO or Pragmatic Institute • Experience with API gateways such as Kong, Apigee, or AWS API Gateway • Knowledge of event-driven architecture and message queues such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS • Experience with API monetisation and developer portal management • Containerisation and orchestration experience with Docker and Kubernetes • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Datadog, New Relic, or Grafana • Background in financial services, fintech, or another regulated industry How we work You will be based in London with 1 to 2 days a week in the office and flexible working around that.
