The role focuses on ultra-low-latency design, order-book structures, memory management, lock-free concurrency, and rigorous throughput and latency targets, with a highly distributed working environment.

Highlights

High-ownership role leading the architecture and implementation of a next-generation trading engine, with direct responsibility for latency, throughput, concurrency, and performance standards.

Description

About Gate Founded in 2013, Gate is one of the world's earliest and most trusted cryptocurrency exchanges, serving over 53 million users globally. Ranked among the top three exchanges worldwide, Gate supports spot, futures, and margin trading alongside wealth management products across 4,600+ cryptocurrencies. With thousands of employees across key global markets — most working fully remotely — Gate is building the financial infrastructure of the next era of the internet. We hire people who move fast, think independently, and want real ownership of their work. Core Responsibilities Lead the architectural design and implementation of the next‑generation matching engine — take full ownership of technical decisions spanning matching models, order‑book data structures, memory management and lock‑free concurrency, with direct accountability for performance metrics.Establish engineering standards for latency and throughput — define key metrics including TPS and P99/P999 latency, and drive the team to continuously push toward performance limits instead of maintaining the status quo.Build high‑availability disaster recovery and fault‑recovery mechanisms — design multi‑active architectures, primary‑standby failover workflows and business‑continuity solutions to guarantee zero system outages under extreme market conditions, hardware failures or network partition scenarios.Build and lead a top‑tier technical team — foster a strong engineering culture and drive continuous capability uplift across the team.Job Requirements Obsessed with microsecond‑ and nanosecond‑level latency: proactively dive into CPU, network low‑level details and kernel internals, always believing further performance improvements are achievable.Maintain systematic thinking under extreme pressure: during sharp market swings, remain calm to triage production alerts, make architectural trade‑offs and coordinate the team simultaneously, rather than falling into pure fire‑fighting mode.Capable both of designing theoretically optimal matching models from scratch and making sound engineering trade‑offs under real‑world constraints.Treat documentation and observability as first‑class citizens.Possess a concrete frame of reference for "industry‑best‑in‑class": have exposure to world‑class systems, understand existing gaps, and possess solid methodologies to close those gaps.
