Senior Backend Engineer

We're looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our engineering team and play a key role in designing, building and evolving high-quality backend services and APIs. You'll be working primarily with Java and Spring Boot, building robust, scalable and secure REST APIs that support our core products and services. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, contribute to architecture and help raise engineering standards across the team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, writing clean and maintainable code, and working collaboratively with other engineers, product managers and stakeholders. What You'll Be Doing Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring BootBuild and maintain high-quality RESTful APIsDevelop clean, testable and maintainable production codeContribute to technical architecture and system design decisionsWork with databases, data modelling and persistence technologiesDesign systems with scalability, reliability, performance and security in mindWrite automated unit, integration and API testsInvestigate and resolve complex technical issuesParticipate in code reviews and help maintain high engineering standardsWork closely with frontend engineers, product managers, DevOps and other stakeholdersMentor and support more junior engineersContribute to improving development practices, tooling and processesTake ownership of projects and technical solutions from design through to production Essential Strong commercial experience with JavaExtensive experience with Spring / Spring BootStrong understanding of REST API design and developmentExperience building and supporting production-grade backend servicesStrong understanding of object-oriented design and software engineering principlesExperience working with relational databases and SQLSolid understanding of automated testing and CI/CD
