Description

Location: Vienna, Austria Work model: Hybrid – regular in-office presence in Vienna is mandatory Preferred residence: Vienna, Lower Austria or Burgenland Employment: Full time (40h) About VZUALVZUAL 3D transforms static product presentations into immersive, interactive 3D experiences delivered through the browser. Its digital prototyping platform enables brands, manufacturers, designers, and converters to create, visualize, and share highly realistic product concepts before production begins. Our platform combines real-time 3D rendering, physically based materials, complex print-finishing effects and enterprise workflows directly in the browser. We work with international enterprise customers and are expanding our development capabilities in Austria. We are now looking for a Senior Full-Stack & 3D Web Graphics Engineer who can become the technical counterpart to our external development team and build deep knowledge of the entire VZUAL platform. This is not a project-management role. Product direction, priorities and project management remain with the founder/CEO. Your role is to develop, understand and strengthen the technology itself. Your RoleYou will work directly on VZUAL together with our existing external development team. A key objective of this position is to build strong technical redundancy inside Austria: you should understand the architecture and codebase deeply enough to independently investigate problems, fix critical bugs and take ownership of individual areas of the platform when required. You will also actively contribute to the development of new features, especially around advanced real-time 3D graphics. Your responsibilities will include: Developing new VZUAL features across frontend and backendWorking extensively with Three.js and WebGLDeveloping and optimizing custom GLSL shadersBuilding advanced real-time materials, visual effects and rendering techniquesWorking with PBR materials, textures, normal maps, displacement, roughness, metalness, transmission, clearcoat, anisotropy and similar rendering conceptsImproving rendering performance and visual qualityDeveloping complex React-based user interfaces for interactive 3D applicationsExtending Node.js backend services and APIsInvestigating and fixing bugs across the application stackReviewing and understanding code produced by our external development teamCollaborating technically with external developers and discussing implementation approachesReviewing technical solutions and identifying architectural or performance issuesTaking responsibility for selected technical components of VZUALBuilding sufficient knowledge of the complete platform to provide technical continuity and redundancy in AustriaPrototyping new graphics and visualization concepts What We Are Looking ForThis position requires real hands-on 3D web graphics experience. Three.js/WebGL knowledge is not a nice-to-have. It is one of the core requirements of the role. You should have strong experience with: Three.jsWebGLGLSL / custom shader developmentJavaScript / TypeScriptReactNode.jsModern browser APIsREST APIs and web application architectureGit and professional software-development workflowsExperience with several of the following is highly desirable: WebGPUReact Three FiberAdvanced PBR renderingCustom materials and ShaderMaterialGPU performance optimizationTexture processing and UV mapping3D model formats such as GLTF / GLB / OBJBlender or other 3D toolsCanvas / SVG graphicsAWSPostgreSQL / MongoDBWebSocketsCI/CDComputer graphics, visual computing or game-engine developmentImage processing or computational geometry What Matters More Than Your CVWe are looking for someone who enjoys understanding how things work under the hood. If you see a rendering problem, you should want to understand whether the problem comes from geometry, normals, UVs, material parameters, shaders, lighting, tone mapping, texture filtering or the rendering pipeline itself. You should be comfortable opening an unfamiliar part of a large application, understanding it and eventually being able to modify it confidently. We value strong engineering judgment, curiosity and the ability to solve technically difficult problems over titles or corporate hierarchy. What This Role Is NotThis is not a Scrum Master, Product Manager or traditional Engineering Manager position. You will not be responsible for managing roadmaps, budgets or customer projects. You will be expected to communicate with external developers, review technical decisions and coordinate implementation details where necessary — but your primary job is software engineering. Working at VZUALVZUAL is still a small company, which means you will work very close to the product and have significant influence on how the technology evolves. You will work directly with the founder and with an established external development team. You will have the opportunity to work on technically challenging problems that combine: Web development + real-time 3D graphics + materials + printing technology + enterprise software. We are looking for someone who wants to become one of the people who understands VZUAL technically better than almost anyone else. LocationThe position is hybrid, but regular physical presence at our Vienna office is mandatory. For this reason, candidates should be based in: ViennaLower AustriaBurgenlandor within practical commuting distance of Vienna. This is not a fully remote position. Interested?Send us your CV or LinkedIn profile. Even better: send us examples of something you have built using Three.js, WebGL, GLSL, WebGPU or another real-time 3D graphics technology. GitHub repositories, demos, CodePens, technical experiments and personal projects are very welcome.
