Staff Software Engineer (f/m/d) Location: Berlin, Germany (Hybrid - up to 2 days remote per week) Type: Permanent, Full-time Salary: Up to 120,000 euros A fast-growing technology business combining the pace and innovation of a scale-up with the backing of major global organisations. We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead significant platform and product integration initiatives. What You'll Be Doing Lead the design and implementation of major platform and product integration initiativesDrive technical direction and contribute to the engineering roadmapWrite and sponsor design documents and lead meaningful technical reviewsSet high standards for code quality, architecture and engineering practicesMentor and influence senior engineers across the wider organisationDesign and operate distributed, event-driven systemsApply patterns including CQRS, event sourcing and API gateways where appropriateUse strong architectural judgement to keep solutions pragmatic and avoid unnecessary complexityIdentify database, performance and migration risks before they reach productionDeliver production-ready, observable and maintainable codeLead substantive code reviews and identify genuine technical and design risksDrive complex, multi-team technical projects from design through to deliveryChampion AI-assisted engineering and help build this capability across the team What They're Looking For 8+ years of professional software engineering experienceClear evidence of operating at Staff Engineer level with cross-team technical impactStrong experience leading significant platform-level technical workStrong JVM background, particularly Java and KotlinExperience with Go or Node.js is beneficialHands-on full-stack experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React or AngularDeep experience building and operating event-driven systemsStrong production experience with KafkaStrong understanding of distributed systems, including idempotency, delivery guarantees, backpressure, partitioning and schema evolutionExperience with CQRS and event sourcing, with the judgement to know when not to use themExperience with API gateway technologies and patternsStrong database knowledge across PostgreSQL and non-relational data storesExperience with data modelling, query performance and database migrations under loadProven ability to lead complex, multi-team technical initiativesStrong experience using AI coding tools as part of your daily engineering workflowComfortable with Docker and KubernetesCloud experience, ideally AzureExcellent written and verbal communication skills Why Join?
