Role Summary The DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, on-premise infrastructure, automation frameworks, and monitoring solutions to enable reliable, secure, and scalable software delivery within a security-cleared, government-compliant environment. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines.Automate provisioning and configuration of on-premise infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).Manage and maintain on-premise data centre and virtualised environments (e.g. VMware, bare-metal servers, private/internal networks).Administer on-premise container and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes/K3s).Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions.Improve system reliability, availability, and performance.Collaborate with development, QA, security, and operations teams.Enforce security, compliance, and DevSecOps practices in line with the ISM (Information Security Manual) and Essential Eight controls.Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.Drive continuous improvement of deployment and operational processes.Ensure all work adheres to government security policies, data sovereignty, and handling requirements for classified material. Qualifications Eligibility Requirements Must be an Australian Citizen (mandatory — no exceptions, as this role requires Australian Government security clearance).Must hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a current Australian Government Security Clearance (Baseline as specified by the engagement).Willingness to undergo and pass background, character, and security vetting through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA). Required Skills Strong Linux/Unix administration.CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).On-premise virtualisation and infrastructure (VMware/vSphere, Hyper-V, bare-metal server management).Docker and Kubernetes (including on-premise distributions such as K3s, OpenShift, or Rancher).Scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Elastic Stack, Nagios/Zabbix).Git and source control management.Networking and security fundamentals (firewalls, load balancers, VLANs, DNS).Storage and backup management (SAN/NAS, local storage solutions). Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.5+ years of DevOps/SRE experience.Kubernetes, Terraform, Red Hat (RHCE/RHCSA), or VMware certifications.Experience with Agile/Scrum environments.Prior experience working within Australian Government, Defence, or other security-cleared environments.Familiarity with the ASD Essential Eight, ISM, and PSPF (Protective Security Policy Framework).
