Platform Engineer

Caspian One is partnering with a top‑tier financial institution on a major platform engineering initiative and is looking to hire experienced Senior Platform Engineers (Backend‑Focused) to support the evolution of its internal developer platform. This opportunity sits within a large, global engineering organisation, focused on improving developer experience, strengthening platform capabilities, and delivering scalable backend systems used by thousands of engineers across the bank. Role Responsibilities; Design and build backend services and APIs that underpin the internal developer platformTranslate complex engineering problems into robust system designs and production‑ready codeContribute to platform components supporting hybrid on‑prem and cloud environmentsImprove reliability and observability across distributed systemsCollaborate with SRE, DevOps and platform teams to enhance performance, scalability and engineering standardsProvide technical leadership within a coding‑first, engineering‑led culture Key Experience Required; Strong hands‑on backend engineering in Java, Node.js or PythonProven experience building APIs and distributed systems at scaleSolid understanding of HTTP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, gateways and service meshExposure to containers, Kubernetes and DockerFamiliarity with Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry or similar observability toolingAbility to independently deliver system design, architectural decisions and end‑to‑end solutions Additional Context; Platform Engineering / SRE / DevOps exposure is beneficial, but this is a coding‑first roleExperience in large enterprise or regulated environments is advantageousStrong communication skills and ability to operate within globally distributed teamsOpportunity to influence engineering standards across a major organisation Location & Working Pattern; Sheffield‑based Hybrid model (approximately 3 days onsite) This is a high‑impact engineering opportunity within a substantial transformation programme, offering exposure to complex systems, large‑scale platforms and the chance to shape developer experience across a global organisation.
