Software Engineer

Job Title: Software Implementation Engineer Location: Hybrid In London (2 days per week) Employment Type: Permanent Salary: £80,000 - £110,000 (based on experience level) Start Date: Immediate Industry: Payments We're looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team working on sophisticated technology within the payments and financial services space. You'll contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from technical design and architecture through to hands-on development, testing and continuous improvement. You'll work closely with other engineers in an Agile environment, helping to build high-quality, reusable software that can operate at scale within a highly transactional environment. Software Engineer – Key Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain high-quality Java applications.Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions.Build scalable, resilient and highly available distributed systems.Work with asynchronous and event-driven architectures.Develop reusable code, components and libraries.Optimise applications for performance, scalability and reliability.Follow TDD/BDD and established engineering standards.Contribute to technical discussions and problem solving across the engineering team.Work within a collaborative Agile/Kanban environment.Contribute to CI/CD and automated delivery processes.Take ownership of complex engineering challenges and continually look for ways to improve the product and development process. Software Engineer – Key Skills Required Strong commercial Java 11+ experience.Experience with Spring and modern Java development practices.Experience with reactive and/or asynchronous programming.A good understanding of event-driven systems and distributed architectures.Experience building software where availability, resilience, performance and scalability are important.Experience working within payments, banking, financial services, transaction processing or another highly transactional environment.Experience working in Agile engineering teams.Experience with CI/CD and automated software delivery. Nice to have Kafka and/or JMS.Akka or another reactive framework.Docker and Kubernetes.MongoDB or other document-based databases.Ansible / infrastructure automation.Unix/Linux administration and scripting.DevOps within highly transactional environments.Angular or modern front-end technologies.
