About The Role More than 7 million drivers globally rely on Uber as their primary and flexible earnings source. Uber aims to help earners make a sustainable living via the platform, and so aside from trip earnings, we have multiple Benefits programs live in target marketplaces to help earners retain working flexibility while earning per industry standards. As a part of the Earner Benefits team, you will have direct responsibility to build and launch earner benefits (such as Minimum Earnings Guarantee, Paid Sick Leave, Healthcare Stipend etc) in new markets and the potential opportunity to expand globally. Your work will directly impact the lives of Uber's partners (drivers, couriers) and operations teams across the globe. As a manager of the Earner Benefits team, you will have direct responsibility for vital systems and processes. You will take ownership of key initiatives in designing and building high-quality, scalable systems. You own a critical and high visible charter that is crucial from the regulatory compliance dimension. At the same time, you will own a related charter of spend efficiency to repurpose the benefits spent in a smart and efficient manner for Uber business. What You'll Do You'll manage a team with a mission to launch regulatory benefits in new marketplaces, and drive spend efficiency initiatives in such markets. You will be the accountable owner to ensure the reliability of benefit payouts in all the benefit markets. Own roadmap planning, execution and delivery of projects with high quality Contribute to the engineering culture and uphold the processes that will shape the team Grow, mentor, and develop a team of backend and fullstack engineers Drive the technical alignment internally and with partner teams Sustain high performing team culture and recruit high-quality engineering talent for the team Lean on technical experience to facilitate technical decision-making and improve the team's engineering craft Basic Qualifications Experience as a technical leader and manager who has built and managed world-class technical teams for at least 5+ years Proven track record of working with large-scale distributed systems (multi-tier architectures, application security, monitoring, and storage systems) Experience leading engineering teams in parallel execution against high-stakes business goals and extensive engineering priorities Experience partnering across functions and organizational boundaries to effectively advocate for team, business, and company priorities A strong ability to architect and design robust, high-scale systems and to challenge engineers to think bigger and more generically in developing solutions Proven track record of growing engineers across levels, and promoting a high bar for team members by consistently managing their performance Ability to establish the vision for the charter, by collaborating with the vested stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience owning real-time event driven high scalable distributed systems. Manage architectural systems that enable other teams (Away Teams) build/maintain workflows in a reliable manner Prior experience in driving engineering initiatives promoting reliability of systems as a key theme, securing alignment with product stakeholders for prioritisation Excellent communication and analytical ability.
