THE ROLE
We are looking for an EMS Software Engineer who can build production-grade energy management systems β from device-layer protocol integration to cloud-based AI agent orchestration.
This is primarily a software development role with occasional on-site commissioning support.
You will work directly with our System Architect to deliver Hive.AI's core modules: real-time monitoring, BESS dispatch intelligence, demand management, and agentic control loops.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
βΈ EMS Platform Development
Design, develop, test, and maintain core EMS modules including real-time monitoring, energy data management, alert notification, reporting, device control, and energy dispatch scheduling.
βΈ Backend Services & API
Build and maintain backend services, RESTful APIs, databases, and system integration interfaces.
Own the data pipeline from raw device telemetry to actionable dispatch signals.
βΈ Device Integration & Protocol Handling
Integrate BESS, PCS, BMS, smart meters, and inverters via industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/RTU, MQTT, OPC UA).
Handle data parsing, communication fault recovery, and device control logic.
βΈ Energy Strategy Implementation
Develop and validate energy strategy algorithms including peak shaving, demand charge control (ιιζ§εΆ), TOU arbitrage (εε³°ε‘«θ°·), self-consumption optimization, and BESS charge/discharge scheduling.
βΈ Agentic AI Integration β Hive.AI
Participate in the architecture and implementation of our AI agent layer:
Β· Integrate LLM-based reasoning modules into the EMS dispatch decision loop
Β· Build tool interfaces and MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectors that expose EMS data and control actions to AI agents
Β· Implement human-in-the-loop authorization flows for agentic dispatch commands
Β· Support multi-agent orchestration patterns (sensor fusion β strategy inference β command execution) consistent with agentic AI system design principles
βΈ Testing, Monitoring & Stability
Build test frameworks, system monitoring dashboards, and issue tracking mechanisms.
Maintain system uptime and performance SLAs for production deployments.
βΈ On-Site Commissioning (occasional)
Travel to client sites as needed for device integration, system testing, commissioning, acceptance testing, and field troubleshooting.
βΈ Technical Documentation
Write and maintain technical documentation including device integration specs, API references, system architecture diagrams, and operation manuals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
β 2+ years of software development experience in a production environment
β Proficient in at least one backend language: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or C#
β Practical experience with REST API design, relational/time-series databases, system integration, and Git version control
β Familiar with Linux, Docker, and standard deployment/DevOps tooling
β Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and device communication integration
β Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to read and produce English technical documentation
β Willingness to support occasional on-site client deployments

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience with Modbus, MQTT, OPC UA, or other industrial communication protocols
+ Prior development experience in BESS, solar, microgrid, SCADA, IoT, or industrial automation systems
+ Familiarity with time-series databases (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB), cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP), data visualization (Grafana), or message queue architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
+ Frontend development experience with React, Vue, or similar frameworks
+ Understanding of BMS, PCS, inverters, power monitoring equipment, or Taiwan energy market applications (TaiPower tariff structure, ancillary services, ETP platform)
+ Experience with client-side system rollout, on-site acceptance testing, or cross-functional project coordination
+ Hands-on experience using AI as a development accelerator β e.g.
Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar agentic coding tools integrated into your daily engineering workflow
+ Exposure to LLM API integration, prompt engineering, tool-use / function-calling patterns, or MCP (Model Context Protocol) β particularly in the context of building AI agent systems
