Description

Downtown Calgary | 100% On-Site | Competitive Base + Meaningful Equity Finofo is looking for a product designer who combines three things unusually well: Strong product thinking: You can take a complex workflow, understand the business logic behind it, identify missing states and edge cases, and decide how the product should work.Exceptional visual design: You have strong aesthetic judgment and can turn complex software into clear, polished, high-quality interfaces.AI-first prototyping: You use tools like Lovable, Cursor, Claude, v0, or similar tools to turn ideas into working prototypes quickly. You are comfortable touching code and cleaning up generated interfaces so they feel intentional and on-brand. If you are strongest at only one of these, this probably is not the right role. About Finofo Finofo is building an AI-native platform for how businesses control, understand, and execute spend. Finance teams still manage purchasing, approvals, invoices, payments, reconciliation, and other critical workflows across disconnected systems and manual processes. Finofo is building one intelligent operating layer that helps automate that work from the moment a business decides to spend money through approval, purchasing, invoicing, payment, and reconciliation. Finofo is backed by Desjardins and leading US venture investors, with an established product, a growing customer base, and increasing adoption among mid-market finance teams. The Role This is not a role where a PM hands you a fully specified workflow and you turn it into polished screens. You will be expected to understand the problem deeply enough to help determine how the product should work. A PRD, prototype, or customer conversation might give you the starting point. From there, you should be able to reason through questions like: What is the user actually trying to accomplish? What information does the system already know? What decisions need to happen at each step? What happens when something is missing, incorrect, or uncertain? What changes depending on role, permission, or policy? What should AI handle automatically? When should a human review or intervene? Then you should be able to turn that logic into an interface that feels obvious, fast, and polished. What You’ll Work On You will design end-to-end workflows across Finofo’s product, including areas such as: Purchase requests and approvalsPurchase ordersInvoice capture and processingAI-assisted coding and classificationMatching and exception handlingVendor managementPaymentsExpensesReconciliationSpend visibility and controls These are not simple consumer flows. The product has state, permissions, accounting logic, business rules, exceptions, and financial consequences. We care a lot about how you think through that complexity. AI-Native Product Design We do not believe AI-native software means adding a chatbot to an existing product. You will help decide where AI should: Complete work autonomouslyMake recommendationsAsk for missing informationExplain decisionsSurface uncertaintyEscalate to a person when needed We also expect AI to be a core part of how you design: Use Figma when it is the right toolUse Lovable, Cursor, Claude Code, v0, or similar tools when building the idea directly is fasterMove quickly from concept to interactive prototypeBe comfortable working with AI-generated frontend code and refining it You do not need to be a frontend engineer, but code should not feel off-limits to you. We are looking for someone who is excited by how quickly the distance between an idea, a prototype, and working software is collapsing. What We’re Looking For You are likely a strong fit if you have: 3+ years designing software productsStrong product, interaction, and systems thinkingExceptional visual and UI design abilityExperience with complex B2B SaaS or operational workflowsA portfolio that shows your reasoning, not only polished final screensExperience building interactive prototypesHeavy day-to-day use of modern AI toolsComfort working with HTML, CSS, React components, or AI-generated frontend codeStrong written and verbal communicationCuriosity about finance, accounting, procurement, and business operations You do not need to arrive knowing every finance concept. You do need to be the kind of person who wants to understand why the workflow exists, what the business is trying to control, and what the software needs to do in every important scenario. This Role Is Probably Not For You If You primarily want to be handed wireframes and make them beautiful. It is also probably not a fit if you need every state and interaction specified before you begin designing, avoid technical tools because implementation belongs to engineering, or want to work exclusively in Figma. There are excellent design roles built around those strengths. This is not one of them. How We Work Finofo is a small, ambitious team based in downtown Calgary. You will work closely with founders and engineers. The feedback loop is short, and we expect ideas to become prototypes and shipped product quickly. We value people who think independently, ask good questions, move with urgency, use new tools aggressively, and care deeply about the quality of what reaches customers. Tools Figma React Linear PostHog Lovable Claude / Claude Code AI prototyping and development tools We care more about how you work than which specific tool you prefer. Interview Process 1. Portfolio deep dive Show us work where the underlying product problem was difficult. We want to understand the workflow, decisions, constraints, and tradeoffs behind the final design. 2. Live product working session We will give you a realistic Finofo problem and work through it together. We want to see how you break down the problem, what questions you ask, how you reason through the workflow, and how you translate that thinking into an interactive prototype. Use whatever tools make you fastest. Figma, Lovable, Cursor, Claude Code, v0, and other AI tools are all welcome. We will evaluate your product judgment, systems thinking, visual quality, speed of iteration, and ability to turn an ambiguous problem into something tangible. 3. Founder and engineering conversation A final discussion about how you work, collaborate, make decisions, and what you want to build next. What You Get Competitive base salaryMeaningful equityRelocation support where applicableSignificant ownership over the productDirect access to founders and engineersDowntown Calgary office with gym access, coffee, snacks, and games You will join at a stage where the product is established, the opportunity is expanding, and there is still a lot left to define. This is a role with real influence over what Finofo becomes and how we build it.
