Job Title: Cloud Systems Engineer II 12-month contract | Hybrid in the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Area | Rate: $75-90/hour, depending on experience | Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa Our client, one of British Columbia's largest organizations dedicated to workplace health and safety, is seeking an experienced Cloud Systems Engineer II to support the management, automation, and continued evolution of its enterprise cloud environment. This is a hands-on Azure engineering role with a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code, automation, cloud operations, and developer platform enablement. The successful candidate will work across Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), compute, storage, application services, networking, application gateways, resiliency, and disaster recovery while helping automate and standardize cloud infrastructure. The role is well suited to an experienced Cloud or Infrastructure Engineer with strong Azure, Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, and Azure DevOps experience who is comfortable taking ownership of complex technical problems in a large enterprise environment. Responsibilities: Implement, automate, and support Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud services across enterprise environmentsDesign and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform HCL and related automation technologiesDevelop automation using PowerShell, Ansible, release pipelines, and scripting to improve consistency and operational efficiencyConfigure and support Azure services including AKS, compute, storage, application services, application gateways, networking, resiliency, and recoveryWork closely with DevOps and application teams to provision, configure, and troubleshoot Azure services supporting business applicationsDevelop and maintain Azure DevOps classic and YAML pipelines supporting infrastructure and application deploymentsContribute to the design and implementation of internal developer platforms and cloud enablement capabilitiesSupport and maintain Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Linux virtual server environmentsPerform server provisioning and decommissioning, monthly security patching, certificate renewals, operating system image builds, and ongoing platform maintenanceTroubleshoot complex infrastructure, cloud, networking, deployment, and application platform issuesImplement solutions that support availability, zone and regional redundancy, networking, recovery, and operational resilienceParticipate in technology adoption initiatives and technical design reviews, providing recommendations on cloud architecture and implementationContribute technical expertise and recommendations to the continued development of the organization's cloud roadmapProvide technical guidance and support to other members of the engineering teamParticipate in Agile and DevOps delivery practices and contribute to continuous improvement initiativesParticipate in the team's on-call rotation to support critical cloud and infrastructure services Qualifications: Required Qualifications 6+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, infrastructure design and support, software development, or a related technical discipline, including at least 2 years working with cloud technologiesStrong hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft Azure solutionsExperience with Azure IaaS and PaaS services, including compute, storage, application services, application gateways, networking, redundancy, and recoveryStrong experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform; experience with ARM or Bicep is also relevantHands-on experience with Ansible and infrastructure/configuration automationStrong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, shell scripting, or similar technologiesExperience with Azure DevOps, including classic and YAML pipelines and CI/CD practicesExperience administering Windows Server and Linux, including security patching and related administration toolsAbility to design and support solutions within complex, highly integrated enterprise environmentsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to take ownership of technical issues through resolutionExperience working with Agile and DevOps tools, practices, and delivery processesStrong collaboration and communication skillsUndergraduate degree in a STEM discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, or MathematicsAdditional Relevant Experience Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)Experience designing or supporting internal developer platformsKnowledge of cloud networking, application gateways, high availability, zone/region redundancy, and disaster recoveryExperience supporting enterprise-scale Azure environmentsExperience with cloud security, operating system hardening, certificate management, and patchingEquivalent AWS or GCP experience with the ability to apply that knowledge within an Azure environment may also be considered This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer to work across cloud infrastructure, automation, DevOps, and platform engineering within a large and complex enterprise environment.
