Description

We are seeking an Intermediate/Senior Systems Administrator (12-month contract) for a not-for-profit client in Calgary, AB, whose mission is to improve the lives of Albertans through the use and advancement of technology, digital literacy, and digital best practices. The role will include initiatives such as: helping create the infrastructure for a regional security operations centre, managing OpenStack environments, and growing AWS expertise to support in-house developed applications. This will also include supporting a variety of the infrastructure and services that are used every day. You will also mentor other team members in best practices, approaches, and technologies to help elevate the team's overall capability. Responsibilities: Acting as a technical lead for projects.Be willing to swap hard drives in the morning and then back to leveraging infrastructure as code for the same project that afternoon.Understand the direction of a project, the requirements and constraints, and guide the technology to best fit.Provide architectural decisions affecting service delivery, scalability, and disaster recovery.Assist with budgeting, planning, and purchasing equipment.Maintain relationships with the external stakeholders both in and outside of the technology space.Effectively delegate and mentor others.Learn, document, and share new knowledge and skills with your team.Debug complex problems and share your approach.Review repeating issues and problems, suggest fixes, and work with your team to implement improvements.Encourage constant review and improvement of processes.Build trust between our partners as well as colleagues within the organization.Ensure sufficient documentation exists.Be part of a compensated on-call rotation for applicable projects you are part of. Qualifications: Expert understanding of Linux and virtualization.Expert troubleshooting skills with both hardware and software.Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Scripting languages including shell scripting as well as one higher-level language such as Python.Monitoring and metering concepts and experience with one or more popular monitoring and metering services.Experience in relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.Experience in Cloud Platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, and AWS.Experience in configuration management systems such as Puppet and Ansible.Knowledge of Python, Go, Sensu, Graphite, Prometheus, MySQL, PostgreSQL,AWS, OpenStack, Kubernetes, Puppet, Ansible, LogScale, ArgoCD and Kafka.
