Summary
✨ AI‑Generated
A senior engineering position responsible for the end-to-end design and delivery of secure, stable, documented, and testable B2B APIs. You will shape API architecture, implementation, partner-facing behavior, internal coordination, and delivery standards while working with regulated healthcare data. The role values long-term platform integrity over short-term endpoint solutions; deep domain experience is helpful but not essential.
Highlights
Senior engineering role with end-to-end ownership of B2B APIs, covering architecture, implementation, documentation, security, testing, partner-facing behavior, and delivery. The role offers substantial technical ownership and the opportunity to work with regulated healthcare data and long-term platform architecture.
Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
HiveRx is a production pharmacy operations platform built for regulated compounding environments.
The platform also has a major opportunity to support business-to-business API use cases that can expand how partners, internal systems, and future product capabilities interact with HiveRx.
This role owns the B2B API end to end: architecture, implementation, documentation, partner-facing behavior, internal coordination, and delivery predictability.
The work is less dependent on deep pharmacy background than some platform roles, but it still requires respect for regulated healthcare data, operational consequences, and long-term platform integrity.
This is not a generic endpoint-building role.
API design creates long-term product commitments.
The person in this role needs to build stable interfaces that are secure, documented, testable, and aligned with the platform rather than one-off shortcuts.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Product Engineering
Own the design and implementation of B2B API capabilities for HiveRx
Define API resources, authentication patterns, authorization boundaries, request/response contracts, error handling, rate limiting, and versioning strategy
Build durable Laravel backend services that fit the existing platform architecture
Create predictable integration surfaces for partners, internal systems, and future product capabilities
Write automated tests that protect API behavior and prevent regression
Feature Specification & Research
Translate business and partner needs into detailed, unambiguous API specifications
Research integration patterns, security requirements, data contracts, partner workflows, and platform constraints
Produce documentation and examples that make API behavior clear to external and internal consumers
Lock architecture and scope before build momentum begins
Identify when partner needs require product decisions rather than one-off technical exceptions
Product & Platform Ownership
Own API work from scope definition through release
Coordinate with product, platform, security, and operational stakeholders as needed
Handle healthcare and pharmacy-adjacent data with appropriate care for privacy, access control, auditability, and traceability
Ensure API behavior does not bypass important workflow controls or create hidden operational risk
Establish a predictable release timeline and make risks visible early
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Technical
Strong backend engineering experience with production APIs
Strong PHP and Laravel experience, or deep backend experience with the ability to become productive in Laravel quickly
Experience designing RESTful APIs or similar partner-facing integration surfaces
Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, token management, API security, validation, error handling, rate limiting, and versioning
Comfortable with database design, service boundaries, queues/jobs, observability, automated testing, and technical documentation
Domain
Experience working in or building software for regulated industries is preferred
Healthcare, pharmacy, regulated data, logistics, ERP, or other integration-heavy environments are relevant backgrounds
Must understand privacy, access control, auditability, and data integrity concerns in systems that exchange sensitive operational data
Able to learn enough of the pharmacy domain to avoid dangerous assumptions
AI & Tooling
Comfortable using AI tools as a productivity layer for API design, implementation, documentation, and code review
Able to critically evaluate AI-generated code, specs, and documentation before relying on them
Understands where AI output requires extra scrutiny: edge cases, security boundaries, regulatory logic, data handling, and integration contracts
Writing & Communication
Strong technical writer; your API specs and documentation require minimal clarification
Able to communicate clearly with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
Detail-oriented without being slow; you know when an API contract is ready to build
Comfortable pushing back on vague requirements, unsafe shortcuts, and unstable interface designs
Mindset
Senior ownership mentality; you can own a major technical track without constant direction
Precise, structured, and documentation-oriented
Comfortable with ambiguity; able to impose structure on it
Focused on building stable interfaces that other teams and partners can trust
