A senior cloud data engineering opportunity at the intersection of biotechnology and advanced computing. You will own and evolve scalable infrastructure and data platforms supporting complex scientific workflows, using AWS and Kubernetes while helping enable research and therapeutic discovery.
Highlights
Senior cloud engineering role with significant ownership over infrastructure supporting scientific discovery, combining scalable cloud platforms, data engineering, genomics, computational biology, and machine learning.
Description
Senior Cloud Data Engineer
AWS • Kubernetes • Data Platforms • Genomics • Oxford (Hybrid)
You are an experienced cloud engineer who loves building scalable infrastructure, solving complex technical challenges, and taking ownership of platforms that matter.
You want to work somewhere where your decisions directly influence scientific discovery, not just another software product.
THE COMPANY
We are working with an innovative biotechnology company combining genomics, computational biology, machine learning, and drug discovery to identify entirely new therapeutic targets hidden within the non-coding genome.
Working at the intersection of biology and technology, their computational platform underpins every stage of scientific decision-making.
As their datasets continue to grow and their pipelines become increasingly sophisticated, they are now investing in a senior cloud engineering leader who can take ownership of the infrastructure that powers the business.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Software & Data Engineering, you will become a key technical owner across the companies AWS-based platform.
This is a broad, highly visible role spanning cloud engineering, platform architecture, DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, observability, cost optimisation and data engineering.
You'll work closely with software engineers, bioinformaticians and scientists to ensure the platform scales reliably as data volumes and computational complexity continue to grow.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Own and evolve AWS cloud infrastructureManage and optimise Kubernetes (EKS) environmentsScale large genomics and biological data processing workloadsPartner with engineering, bioinformatics and discovery teams on platform requirementsIdentify architectural improvements and implement scalable solutions
ABOUT YOU
You will likely bring a combination of:
Significant hands-on AWS experience in production environmentsExpertise with Kubernetes and containerised workloadsStrong understanding of networking, IAM, security and cloud architectureBiotechnology, genomics, healthcare or pharmaceutical experience
WHY JOIN?
Within your first 6-12 months you'll have genuine ownership over critical cloud infrastructure powering the scientific platform.
You'll influence architectural decisions, scalability, cost management and technology strategy while working alongside highly capable engineers and scientists.
