Java Software Engineer Remote (UK) Consumer Tech | Music £70,000 - £85,000 + Benefits My client is a well-established consumer technology business used by millions of people worldwide. They're investing heavily in their engineering team and are looking for a Java Software Engineer to help modernise a platform that's evolved over the last 20 years. This is a genuine opportunity to work on large-scale backend systems, influence technical decisions and play a key role in rebuilding a core API that supports millions of requests. The Role Working as part of a collaborative software engineering team, you'll design, build and maintain the backend services that power a large-scale consumer platform. One of the first major projects will be helping redesign and rebuild a long-standing public API, improving scalability, reliability and the overall developer experience for third-party integrations. Alongside this, you'll work on high-volume data services, distributed systems and cloud-based infrastructure, helping shape the next generation of the platform. You'll have plenty of opportunity to contribute ideas, influence architecture and work closely with other engineers and product teams rather than simply delivering tickets. What You'll Be Doing Designing and developing backend services in JavaBuilding and improving scalable REST APIsWorking with distributed systems and cloud technologiesImproving performance, reliability and scalability across the platformContributing to architecture and technical designCollaborating with engineers and product teams to deliver new featuresFollowing modern software engineering best practices including Git, CI/CD and automated testing You'll ideally have: Around 3-6 years' commercial software engineering experienceStrong Java development experienceExperience building or maintaining REST APIsExperience working with scalable backend systemsKnowledge of AWS or Google Cloud PlatformExperience working within Agile development teamsA genuine passion for writing clean, maintainable software Any experience with the following would be beneficial but isn't essential: PythonSpring BootDockerKubernetesEvent-driven architecturesSpark or HadoopPostgreSQL or RedisDevOps tooling and cloud infrastructure Why Apply?
