Senior Integration and Automation Developer

Sod is a Melbourne-based full-service digital agency helping brands craft impactful experiences in digital environments. About the Role We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced developer to join our team. This role is ideally suited to someone with strong commercial experience in PHP (Laravel, WordPress) who is comfortable working across the full stack with modern TypeScript frameworks such as React and Next.js. You will design and build data-driven applications, custom integrations, developer tooling, automation solutions, AI-powered workflows and scalable web platforms. You'll work with modern technologies including APIs, cloud platforms, AI services and command-line tooling to automate business processes, streamline development workflows, solve complex technical problems and deliver high-quality digital experiences. Key Responsibilities Scope, design and deliver data integration projects and technical solutions.Develop and maintain applications using PHP (Laravel, WordPress) and TypeScript (React, Next.js).Build command-line tools (CLIs), developer tooling and automation to improve development and operational workflows.Design and implement AI-powered applications and workflows using OpenAI APIs, LLMs, RAG and vector search.Integrate external APIs and services using REST, GraphQL, webhooks, and common data formats (JSON, XML, CSV).Build scalable data processing, synchronisation, migration and import solutions while ensuring data integrity and performance.Develop custom WordPress plugins and work with WordPress internals, including hooks, filters, REST API, cron, and database schema.Optimise database queries and application performance across large datasets.Collaborate with designers, developers, and producers to deliver high-quality technical solutions.Research, evaluate, and adopt emerging AI and web technologies that improve client outcomes and internal development practices. Skills & Experience Strong commercial experience developing applications with PHP, particularly Laravel and WordPress.Commercial experience with TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React and Next.js.Experience designing and building API-driven applications and data integration solutions.Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.Experience building or consuming REST and GraphQL APIs.Experience building AI-powered applications or integrating services such as OpenAI is highly regarded.Experience building developer tooling, automation, or command-line applications (CLIs) is advantageous.Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, queues, and modern deployment workflows.A passion for learning new technologies and applying them to solve real-world business problems.
